I'm hoping Ed Reed gets a deal done with the Ravens, and then that maybe the Pats sign Goldson if he bails. I figure a couple of teams near the bottom of the 1st will be looking for safeties, and then you've got to wade through the 20 some odd teams in the 2nd before we pick. It would be quite the pain if a whole bunch of teams jumped on safeties between the bottom of the first and our pick, so hopefully the shuffling in FA reduces the need of teams to draft safeties.

Roy Miller - DL - Buccaneers NFL.com reports free agent DT Roy Miller will reach the open market.
Talks reportedly "broke off" last week, and apparently won't restart before next Tuesday. Miller is gambling on himself after being a part of the Bucs' historically good run defense last season, but may find his market surprisingly cold. He graded out poorly in Pro Football Focus' ratings, and comes off the field in passing situations.

If you go back and look at the production between McCoy and Sanchez, McCoy's are better despite having far less talent and organizational stability. For that matter McCoy's production over his first 2 seasons were on par with Sam Bradford.

If they are looking for someone to push Sanchez in earnest then McCoy fits the bill

The lack of movement or information coming from the team with FA rapidly approaching almost has to be an indication that something is brewing behind the scenes. Surely the team has to be thinking restructures to get some wiggle room beneath the cap (LF notwithstanding as he contemplates retirement/another season). Is this an indication the team plans to challenge the NFL pertaining to the cap penalties or are the Redskins in complete ultra-secrecy mode? As FA is quickly on the horizon, the feeling of angst is ever-growing as to what the team will be able to accomplish inn FA. I just recently scanned the ESPN Boards (not the greatest source of information, mind you) and saw a thread on "Big news coming out of Washington" that claimed the Redskins were expected to be "major players" in FA (and this was declared to be coming from within the organization). How is that possible given our cap situation? Any thoughts?

This is the situation I've been banking on. Hopeefully it comes to fruition. I think we go after at least a CB in FA so Safety would be adressed in the draft. Imagine if Vaccaro or Elam slipped that far? Unlikely considering BPA, but hey, stranger things have occured.

That's interesting, didn't know that. It might work, but I'm not sure "pushing Sanchez" should be the Jets task anymore. I think they need to go all in and find another QB.

I agree with you, TSO. The problem for the Jets is the horrific contract extension they gave Sanchez that have virtually hand-cuffed the organization to him. But they would be wise to find a QB to replace Sanchez as he simply is not the answer for them.

I don't disagree, but this year might not be the year for it. I think McCoy, at least this year, will probably be as good as any of the guys entering the league via the draft (barring some Russel-Wilson-like antics by one of them). This year is, unfortunately for the Jets, not the year to go all in on a QB.

And that makes things very difficult for the Jets. Spending a 1st on a QB means he's the future, and you don't want to go there if Sanchez is still handcuffed to you. A 2nd isn't good either, a 2nd is a high enough pick that you expect them to start at some point, and that still exerts undue pressure on Sanchez.

I think bringing in McCoy and then drafting a QB in the 3rd exerts just about the right amount of pressure on him. McCoy would be considered the backup, but Sanchez knows he's in the rearview mirror, while the 3rd rounder is sitting there pushing him too. And there's a benefit for McCoy and the 3rd rounder for motivational purposes too, McCoy is probably thinking he could win back a starting job if Sanchez falters, and the 3rd rounder is pushed to perform, because if he plays to a level like Wilson, he's going to get a chance to start.

Anthony Spencer - DL - Cowboys Cowboys assigned the franchise tag to DE/OLB Anthony Spencer.
The writing hit the wall with Monday's release of Gerald Sensabaugh. The Cowboys clearly consider Spencer a core defender and someone they couldn't afford to lose. As a back-to-back franchise tagee, Spencer is now guaranteed $10.627 million in 2013. The priority remains a long-term contract that pleases both sides. Spencer is coming off the best year of his career, playing outside linebacker in Rob Ryan's 3-4. He'll be a left defensive end in Monte Kiffin's 4-3.

Darrelle Revis - DB - Jets Jets GM John Idzik told reporters Monday that Darrelle Revis is ahead of schedule in his recovery from ACL surgery.
"By all accounts, by his doctor’s accounts -- he’s doing very well," said Idzik. "By their estimation he’s ahead of schedule." Idzik and coach Rex Ryan mostly dodged questions about whether Revis is on the trade block. "Darrelle is a very valued player on our team," Idzik added. "Our focus is squarely on getting him healthy, getting him back to his (usual) level of play."

Matt Flynn - QB - Seahawks The Seattle Times suggests the Jets might be Matt Flynn's "most likely suitor" on the trade market.
The Seahawks would likely be willing to accept a late-round pick for a backup quarterback owed $5.25 million, $2 million of which is guaranteed. It can't hurt that new Jets GM John Idzik was in Seattle's front office when Flynn's contract was negotiated and has an idea of Flynn's value. Flynn would be a solid fit for Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg's West Coast scheme. Related: Jets

Glover Quin - DB - Texans John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports the Texans will not wield their franchise tag before Monday's deadline.
They're either going to re-sign SS Glover Quin to a long-term deal or let him hit the market. The Texans never considered using the tag on free agent OLB Connor Barwin. Re-signing Quinn is Houston's priority over keeping Barwin.

Cowboys | Kenny Vaccaro will be visiting
University of Texas SS Kenny Vaccaro said at the NFL Scouting Combine that he will be meeting with the Dallas Cowboys before the 2013 NFL Draft.

Steelers | Adding CB will not affect pursuit of Keenan Lewis
The Pittsburgh Steelers will still work on re-signing impending free-agent CB Keenan Lewis this offseason even though they signed CB William Gay.

Dolphins | Jake Long, Sean Smith expected to hit market
The Miami Dolphins are expected to let impending free-agent OT Jake Long and impending free-agent CB Sean Smith hit the free-agent market this offseason. The team has negotiated with both players but has not been able to reach an agreement with either.

I enjoy the **** out of that offseason, but why are we cutting: J. Wilson and Tana and resigning: J. Wilson and Tana? I think it would be easier/safer to extend Wilson, he isn't that big of a cap hit. And it takes two to tango with that. I have no doubt that Moss would come back, but I'd keep my eye on Wilson.

Buccaneers | Could make decision on Eric Wright's future
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could decide this week whether to release CB Eric Wright or see if he would be willing to receive a pay cut in order to stay. If the team believes they can acquire an upgrade at the position for equal or lesser value, they probably will release Wright.

    Cowboys | Two players released
The Dallas Cowboys have released LB Brashton Satele and CB Vincent Agnew.

I think he put it in there as option 1 and option 2. He meant you can either cut them out right, or just put them in the restructure/extend column.

Ahmad Bradshaw - RB - Free Agent Free agent Ahmad Bradshaw (foot surgeries) is hoping to receive medical clearance on Wednesday.
Bradshaw has a doctor checkup Wednesday as he seeks clearance to begin vising teams and taking physicals. Bradshaw believes the "door is open" for a return to the Giants despite the fact that they cut him on February 6. Although he's just about to turn 27, there has been little to no free-agent buzz on Bradshaw so far. Related: Giants

Jared Cook - TE - Titans Yahoo's Jason Cole reports the Titans are still deciding whether to place the franchise tag on free agent Jared Cook.
Tagging Cook would inevitably lead to a spat about his position -- wide receiver or tight end -- that might eventually require an arbitrator's intervention. The Titans may instead simply allow Cook to test free agency and let the market determine his worth. They have less than an hour before the 4PM ET deadline.

Jake Long is downright dominant, when healthy... He just has a hard time staying healthy. I don't think $11 million is reasonable for him... Sean Smith seems like a "me, me, me" guy anyway. He's not even the best CB on the FA market but acts like he's the king of the world. I'd actually be upset if (though I'm glad it won't happen) we picked up S. Smith.

Greg Jennings - WR - Packers The Packers have decided against franchise tagging Greg Jennings, paving the way for Jennings to test free agency.
This significantly increases the odds Jermichael Finley returns to Green Bay. The Packers briefly considered tagging Jennings, but doing so would have cost nearly $11 million and he's not worth that much money. Jennings' likeliest suitors in free agency appear to be the Dolphins and Vikings, although more teams will enter the bidding. We anticipate Jennings receiving significantly less than the $12 million annually he's purportedly seeking.
