Reading up on Arrington, it seems that he's more suited to play the slot CB role. I get the impression he pretty much gets abused on the outside.

Can some of you more knowledgable guys out there tell me how he'd fit with both the guys we have on the roster plus those others we've been linked with (Fox, Cason etc). Who primarily plays the slot role now ?

Redskins have not moved quickly to try to sign Eric Winston

Posted by Mark Maske on March 10, 2013 at 7:00 am

The Redskins do not appear to be serious suitors to sign free agent right tackle Eric Winston.

Winston was released Wednesday by the Kansas City Chiefs. As a player who was released, he can sign with another team at any time and does not need to wait until the opening of the unrestricted free agent market Tuesday at 4 p.m.
He formerly played for Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Houston. It is believed that the Redskins had interest in Winston last offseason when he was a free agent. The team needs a right tackle with its starter from last season, Tyler Polumbus, eligible for unrestricted free agency.

A person familiar with the deliberations said as of early Saturday night there had been little or no contact between the Redskins and Winston’s representatives. The Redskins are over the salary cap—they must be in compliance Tuesday—and spent Saturday re-signing some of their own free agents.

hey, with our offense they might make a little better use of Campbell. Not that I think he's a zone read guy but they aren't afraid to run the QB and I swear the Redskins under Campbell could have scored a dozen or more extra TDs a year if he'd just bootlegged around the corner and ran into the end zone

Maybe in the 7th. But for me, we either draft Florence or sign Josh Johnson. Look to trade Kirk after this season.

EDIT: And welcome back Kory! Very happy about that signing.

I posted something earlier about him. Patriots fans per your point seems to think he's decent in the slot but bad as an outside CB.

Arrington, 26, has enjoyed much success during his four seasons with the Patriots, including leading the NFL with seven interceptions in 2011. His 2012 didn’t start off quite so well, as his deficiencies were exposed time and again while trying his hand as the team’s permanent No. 2 corner. But a switch inside to the slot saw him reestablish himself as a premier defender. A strong second half wasn’t looking for even more ways to contribute to the team

Rotoworld has him ranked as the 18th best FA CB

Florence isn't going to play in the NFL. He would have been a decent option.

At what position though...I've gotten the impression he's seen as the future starter at C.

Matt Scott's name has been mentioned but he is starting to draw interest and MAY be a mid round selection in the draft with the lack of QB in it and the need of QBs in the league.

Wish we had the cap room to beat out the 49ers for Delmas.

Delmas has the talent but can't stay on the field for a 16 game season.

    Sam Baker - T - Falcons
The National Football Post thinks free agent Sam Baker is more of a guard than tackle.
One personnel man thinks Baker's best fit is in a zone-blocking scheme due to his limited length, which "affects him as a pass protector" and he "does not anchor well." Baker, 28 in May, had easily his best season in 2012, but he has notoriously struggled since being a first-round pick in 2008. He also has chronic back problems. We're not expecting a hot market for his services.

Mike Wallace - WR - Steelers
The National Football Post says "those who should know speculate" free agent Mike Wallace's new deal will average more than $13 million per season.
This is the highest annual average we've seen for Wallace yet. Most reports have been that he would top out around $11-12 million per year, but Wallace is this year's Mario Williams and a team could go wild if they want him badly enough. FOX Sports' Alex Marvez recently said Wallace is expected to draw "multiple offers," so we very well could have a bidding war on our hands.

James Harrison - LB - Free Agent
The player rep for free agent OLB James Harrison says his client "would love" to play for the Browns.
Harrison played college ball at Kent State and is an Akron native. The Browns also have several coaching-staff ties to Harrison, beginning with DC Ray Horton, a former longtime Steelers assistant. The Browns seem more keen on free agent Paul Kruger, but could revisit Harrison if they're outbid by a team like the Colts.

Anquan Boldin - WR - Ravens

Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, Profootballtalk.com reports Anquan Boldin's chances of staying in Baltimore are "parked at 50-50."
PFT's Mike Florio passes along "suspicion" that Boldin's agent is actively trying to get his client cut in hopes of testing free agency and commanding more money than his $6 million salary. It could be a smart business move. The receiver market has been depleted by Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline's long-term deals, and Boldin would immediately become a top-five free-agent wideout along with Mike Wallace, Greg Jennings, Wes Welker, and Danny Amendola.

Eddie Lacy - RB - Player
Alabama RB Eddie Lacy will miss the Crimson Tide's March 13 Pro Day due to "lingering" tightness in his hamstring
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Lacy's workout date is now "TBD." The lingering nature of Lacy's injury is becoming increasingly concerning, even if he has plenty of time before Week 1. Hamstring injuries are highly susceptible to setbacks.

John Abraham - DL - Free Agent
A tweet from free agent John Abraham late Saturday indicated that he's returned home after club-facility visits to the 49ers and Seahawks.
"Thanks Seahawks (and) 49ers for great visits," he said. "Back home in A(tlanta), time for some rest." Abraham has drawn interest from the Titans and Bucs as well. We expect him to command at least $5 million annually on his next deal.

Dunta Robinson - DB - Chiefs
The Kansas City Star suggests the Chiefs might use Dunta Robinson at safety.
Robinson lacks ideal size -- he's listed at 5-foot-10, 183 -- but that's not too small for a free safety. In 2012, Pro Football Focus graded Robinson as the NFL's No. 4 run-support corner, behind only Antoine Winfield, Chris Harris, and Jason McCourty. The Chiefs could use Robinson on a Ronde Barber-like role, playing free safety on early downs and covering the slot in the nickel.

    Mar 9 - 10:46 PM

Chase Blackburn - LB - Giants
The Giants are only willing to offer free agent MLB Chase Blackburn on a one-year deal for the league minimum salary.
Blackburn is going on 30 and struggles versus the pass. As has annually been the case since Antonio Pierce's retirement, the Giants want to upgrade at middle linebacker. Ideally, they'd bring back Blackburn to play on special teams.

Compton better be NFL-worthy, because Eric Winston is a quality ZBS RT who is probably still somewhat affordable, and might be interested in playing for the Skins, where he's a great fit in Kyle's offensive systems and 'philosophy.'.

Obtaining Winston would be a great insurance policy on extending Griffin III's career, and give him a better pocket to allow him to hone his drop back passer skills.

Hopefully, the Skins are playing the waiting game, and simply trying to find some cap room for signing Wnston.

As for those who want great safeties, CBs, etc. -- remember that a solid running game that is able to attack both sides of the field, is a big help for the defense as well.

However, if the Skins FO are certain that Compton is an adequate replacement for Polumbus -- I guess I'd be comfortable with that.
