Elvis Dumervil - DL - Broncos
The Denver Post reports contract restructuring talks between the Broncos and RE Elvis Dumervil appear to have reached an impasse.
The exact same term -- "impasse" -- was used in Pittsburgh to describe James Harrison's negotiations before the Steelers cut him. Agent Marty Magid sent the Broncos a contract proposal on Friday, and the two sides have had "no communication" since. Denver may be preparing Dumervil's walking papers. "Elvis has been working out, he’s healthy, he feels great," Magid said. "He wants to stay with the Broncos. Right now, we’re waiting to hear back from them."

Greg Toler - DB - Cardinals

The Washington Examiner's John Keim reports the Redskins have interest in free agent CB Greg Toler.
This is in addition to their Derek Cox interest. The cap-strapped Skins aren't positioned to spend big on free agents, but they will definitely sign at least one corner to replace DeAngelo Hall. Hall figures to be released by Tuesday. Another second- or third-wave free agent corner who might appeal to Washington is E.J. Biggers. Biggers played under DBs coach Raheem Morris in Tampa.

So resigning all players...does this mean we already have a superbowl roster

Sadly, with the damn penalty, they won't be able to re-sign all of the players. We will lose at least 1 or 2 that we really want to keep. Sadly, I'm guessing that Lorenzo is one of those.

But, the good news is that if they can kindof keep the band together on offense, at least that side of the ball should be at least as good if not better just with the experience playing in the offense. That's something we haven't seen in these parts in a long time.

Defense is going to be a huge ? going into the season. If they can add a piece or two, they should be passable. A healthy Orakpo would be very useful. But, who knows.
There appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel. I just hope it's not a train.

I don't understand how everyone says were so strapped were one of the few teams that haven't restructured or released anyone. If the skins cut or restructure a few contracts. They'll be in a good position to make some key moves.

Definitely agree Bang. Thanks DC9 for keeping us up to date and everyone else who is contributing!

Also, my 2 cents to add is I am loving the shift in the mindset of building a team from getting all the top free agents in free agency to "growing our own" and paying the players we draft for how they contribute. Really like all the signings.

We aren't CASH strapped either, never have been.
A bad plan well executed may work. A good plan badly executed will always fail.

That's how I feel too, with a huge exception for Lorenzo. It's a friggin shame that our ultimate Mr. Hustle may be lost. I understand that we may not have the money to pay the man what he's worth, but if he ends up elsewhere, I'll be a little disappointed.

The irony about Lorenzo is I recall him on a 980 show last year saying he supports the cap penalty on the Redskins -- saying its unfortunate for the Redskins but he's a player rep first so its for the good of the NFL or something to that effect. Fast forward a year later and he's complaining that the Redskins can give him market value. Lorenzo is the only guy i noticed who outwardly supported the cap hit. Others including Kory right before he resigned, talked about how the cap hit was unfair to the Redskins.

His charcter and effort are world class. His special teams play was special. Outside of that, he was a very average player. I suspect that we offered him a fair deal for a guy who is his age. He may be looking for more money because he is coming off of a Pro Bowl selection, but I agree with the organization that you can't afford to overpay a guy like Lorenzo.

We have a ton of young LBs and DBs who hopefully will be able to take over the roll of special teams ace while improving their skills to get on the field to contribute on offense and defense.

I don't mind getting top FA's as long as we don't go about it like John McCain selecting a VP. I'm confident that are new FO will keep mistakes to a minimum. Plus, do we really know that we've moved on from 'offseason champ' status or have we been forced to be frugal??
