Reading this thread reminds me there is a certain subset of this fan base that was so irreparably damaged by the Vinny/Dan era that they don't know how to react to a properly run front office.

Take a deep breath and realize the people running the show actually know what they're doing. The entire world doesn't rest on this one upcoming season also, take a more long term approach as a fan.

    Cox 4 years / 20 million : 5 mil

Chargers signed CB Derek Cox, formerly of the Jaguars, to a four-year, $20 million contract.

I'm officially crossing RT off our "needs" list, for me anyways. We're signing (or at least meeting) these crappy veterans because we really like Compton. We want him to have to compete, but we want him to win, because he can and should be our future RT. If we spend any significant resources, either cap dollars or draft picks, on a RT that probably doesn't happen. So for now we sign vets that know how to work and compete, and we let Compton go to war with them and earn his starting spot.

So I've got FS, CB, and TE as our needs and offensive playmaker, ILB, and SS as possible lesser needs/future needs. Depending on young guys like Hankerson, Aldrick, Helu, Keenan Robinson, and vets like Morgan and Meriweather, all of these might become needs or none of them might.

If we can get Fred back cheap on a 1-year deal, draft a TE in the 3rd/4th, and sign one starting quality FS or CB, we're down to one hole that our 51st overall pick can fill, given where the strength of this class lies.

It's paper thin and not ideal, but we aren't screwed this year and we're in great shape for next offseason.

Agreed. Clark and Landry I never wanted to see go. Was one of the very few that felt that way about Landry. Rogers was definitely time to go. Had a lot to do with fans giving him a hard time and singling him out for his drops, he got extremely defensive and it just snowballed from there.

Landry wasn't as ugly of a situation but so many fans got disgruntled with him all of a sudden half the board went from thinking he was going to be our All-Pro safety for years to being so upset that all of a sudden he was nothing more than a steroid-using selfish loser. I never shared that sentiment but I do think it was maybe a situation again where it was best for both sides to mutually separate. Unfortunate because I still think he's a very good player and I'm a fan, but sometimes that kind of thing just happens. I guess you could make the argument that even if we had kept him on a similar deal to what he signed with the Jets, we wouldn't have been able to sign him this year anyway.

Letting Clark walk and replacing him with Archuletta (not to even mention that contract we signed that guy to) was probably a top 3-4 FA mistake we made in the last decade.

Darius Slay in the 2nd. There will be a plethora of safeties in the 3rd. That immediately improves us materially. That also does not consider the development of Compton, Hurt, Gettis, and LeRibs. With Trent Williams, Lichtensteiger, Williams, and Chester, not a bad line in the coming years.
Your delusional I mean give me a break. You can't expect to find 3 or 4 starters in any draft. We need a offensive linemen, CB, TE, FS, SS, depth and more. All I want to do is replace hall right now. This team has got worst in the last few days.

Been up since 6:30 and the only player who signed in my division was a kicker. I'm going to bed.

    Boom. That's Houston/Cox/DRC all signing for a 5M/year average.

That's the sweet spot, adjust accordingly. The market's been set, now to see if teams value the remaining guys more or less.

As a fan i still wish there was a way to stick it to the nfl for what they have done to the redskins. We have 0 money to sign any one. Yes we have a "properly run" front office. But even our " properly run" front office would have signed a couple names to improve our secondary. We have 0 cap space. Screw roger goodell and john mara. So infuriating. We couldnt even sign a damn waterboy if we wanted to.

It's really hard to find starting talent in the later rounds on defense , putting a lot of pressure on them off the bat

Am I the only one who isn't overly concerned about Davis? I know he can definitely be very productive, a weapon on offense for sure, but we seemed to manage pretty well without him.

Wonder if DRC's contract has a no franchise tag clause, cause he should IMO. (actually not even sure that's allowed.)

I'm not panicking, especially with what our division has done aka nothing. I just think this roster with a few upgrades can compete with the 49ers and Seahawks. Unfortunately, those teams have added pieces and gotten better and we haven't done anything.
