Sometimes it's tough to push a veteran out of a role when they are doing halfway decent there. Polumbus, for all of his shortcomings, was halfway decent... and MUCH better than we anticipated. It's really tough to move a guy from there. Hurt looked pretty solid in that role (made a few mistakes, sure) in his one game relief of Polumbus, and Hurt looked pretty good in the preseason.

People are banking on Compton taking that spot because he's the new young gun... But let's not forget... Hurt was in his second year in the league last year. He's still young, too. And, for what it's worth... In very BRIEF film review on the two I thought they were both pretty good... But Hurt was a bit better.

But I don't have much on them, so you have to believe in Chris Foerster to make the right decision. And I do.

"Halfway decent" is not going to cut it. Watch games like the one against Carolina where we were forced to pass because of time & score. Hell, watch how atrocious we were on third and long all season long. It is going to be such a HUGE obstacle in RGIII's development if we can't even perform the basic drop back passing game.

Adding to this, the model that the front office has established is bring in rookie and vet. Vet is the starter until he is no longer playing up to par or the rookie pushes him out of the way.

edited to add more: This model is also the culture the team is trying to establish (and a welcome change). Work hard and you will be rewarded with a chance to play/start and when the time comes you will get paid. But also work hard to keep your starting spot and not let the young pups behind you push you out of the way.

Sure, but the coaches as well as the front office would throw all of that out of the window if the younger guy was indeed better. They would rather win games then adhere to the some model you're referring to. Like I keep saying, very wishful thinking on our RT situation on this board.

And when a vet plays halfway decent, especially with this regime, you're not losing your job unless the young guy under you is damn near perfect.

Do you watch baseball/hockey? Prospects are rarely ready right away. Some hockey guys don't blossom until they're 25. Some even later. You don't get that luxury in football. However, having said that, Hurt was a 2nd year player and Compton a rookie. Patience is a virtue, and don't write them off this year because of where they were last year.

haha there not really "sexy signings" , fred davis re-signing would be thrilling

at the same point , not thrilled with them but understand Bruce and Shanny are getting good depth and it is a upgrade over polumbus with tight with the cap
