Ball got to start rolling soon. I expect names such as Hall, Moss, Carriker, Bowen, Cofield, Williams, Wilson and Chester to be resturctured or cut.

Understand but the concern I have is with him getting more money from the Giants and Cardinals may be able to pay him more than us. With us having to tender Jackson and Young and possibly Paulsen money will be tight.

As much as the cap penalty pisses me off, I am not at all worried about our ability to meet this years cap & still be productively active in free agency. We'll end up pushing bit more pro-rated bonus into the next 3 years, but nothing that will hinder us too much in those future years, imo.

Moore to me is intriguing, IMO he is a much more complete and impact player than Lynch -- but I doubt we can afford 5-6 mill a year for a free safety.

Read up on EJ Biggers and a few of the other guys in our top CBs on the OP. There are some upgrades available for not so expensive.

Free agent DT Randy Starks says he'd be willing to give the Dolphins a discount on a long-term deal.
"I want to be a Dolphin!!! Not just for one more year...," tweeted Starks. "Discount yea clearance rack heck no! I want to be here and finish here!" Starks seems opposed to the franchise tag, but word is that he's likely to get it by Monday's 4PM ET deadline. That doesn't mean a long-term deal can't be worked out by the July 15 deadline if he indeed does get tagged at the $8.45 million price.

StLouisRams.com mentions free agent DL Jason Jones as a potential target for the team.
Only if free agent DL William Hayes leaves via free agency would St. Louis be in need of a defensive lineman, but both Jones and Hayes have experience with coach Jeff Fisher from their Tennessee days. The Rams had Jones in for a visit last offseason, but he picked the Seahawks. Fisher likes his linemen to be able to play both tackle and end, which is precisely what Jones can do.

ESPN Dallas doesn't expect the Cowboys to re-sign free agent LB Ernie Sims.
The Dallas Morning News said it was "likely" that Sims would be back, but the Cowboys are expected to go younger. He shouldn't have much of a market, so the Cowboys will likely keep Sims' phone number handy for future purposes.

The Browns are looking into extending C Alex Mack's contract.
Mack has one year left on his rookie contract, and his salary jumped to $3.732 million based on performance escalators. He's one of the premier run-blocking centers in the league. Mack, 27, could be targeting a deal similar to what Seahawks C Max Unger inked last offseason as a 26-year-old -- five years and $25.5 million with $12 million guaranteed.

Good news for those of us who think it'd be a good idea to get this cat in here if the price is right:

The Cleveland Plain Dealer says it's doubtful that Colt McCoy will be back with the Browns in 2013.
McCoy triggered playing time escalators in his contract that spiked his 2013 salary from $575,000 to $2.325 million. He doesn't fit the vertical passing offense, and the Browns don't consider him a viable starting option. Beat writer Terry Pluto considers Matt Moore an option to replace him. Derek Anderson has also been linked to the Browns.

I'm torn about all this. I mean, they guys have to know the team is up against a wall not of their making. Surely then know we have turned the corner. Don't you think they would be willing to restructure or take less this year for more later on when the cap penalty is over.

Hall and Moss have already said they would and we've already talked to their agents. We've already heard Carriker may be cut. Williams probably won't restructure because he is only in the third year of his rookie deal, but it won't get any easier.

Wilson can't restructure because he is in the last year of his deal, but I'd love to extend him.

Chester has been great. The only way I dump him is because you think Gettis or Hurt are ready to perform at his level.

Don't want it to happen but IF we were to trade Chester would any of his money count against our cap?

I think he is 30 this year, and a trade wouldn't happen. But if you trade, they trade for his contract. It would depend on the terms of the contract of how much money we would eat, but likely none of it.

I think we're still on the hook for whatever signing bonus he is still due.

You are right. I'm not sure what his bonus was. Moot point regardless, Chester won't be traded. Not because he isn't good, but I doubt anyone would come after him and his money.

We had to reach a little bit for him in 2011 FA. 5 years and 20 mil.

Considering what our line was like before that, I think that's money well spent. He has played solid and his experience has rubbed off on the younger guys.

I wouldn't even want to trade Chester. He's a solid pass protector, and showed he could adapt well to this offense. We need the right side as solidified as possible considering it'll be the hole we're plugging this off-season in terms of offense.
