Houston doesnt have that NT but they have Watt who pretty much demands two guys. A NT will make the DE's better and Rak/Kerrigan a lot better and with more pressure getting to the QB it will make our secondary better. We dont have a guy on our line like this. We have a bunch of guys who are good at stopping the run but aren't very good at rushing the passer.
Not trying to be an ass, but who do you suggest? Those guys don't exactly grow on trees, and there are no Ngata types available in FA ( and even if there were they'd cost a fortune) or where the skins pick in the draft..
Everyone here says "we need a NT that commands double teams and can rush the passer"... well so do about 28 other teams.
Barry Cofield is LEGIT... no more nonsense about we need a "real" NT... HE IS THE REAL DEAL!!!! He goes to the Pro Bowl this year, book it!!!

I think the point you are trying to make is that you don't sell out for the high end frosting when your cake is cardboard. You put the high quality ingredients in the cake and if you got resources left over THEN you make the high quality frosting. Is that sort of on the right track?

This a good point too. For the life of me I can't think of anyone. Is it anybody in college that someone knows about that could develop into being that type of player?

    Warning: Long post coming:
Here are my thoughts on our overall needs, and they aren't in any particular order:

    1) Nose Tackle
    2) Inside Linebacker
    3) Pass Rush LB (Rob Jackson would be ideal)
    4) Safeties (yes, plural)
    5) Tight End (Davis may be too costly)
    6) Corner
    7) Right Tackle (I'd like an upgrade, be even reupping Polumbus to start or backup would be ideal here)
    8) Fullback (Darrell Young MUST be re-signed. One of my favorite players on the team due to his versatility and blocking ability. Can carry the ball if necessary)
    9) Wide Receiver Depth
    10) Quarterback

So here's a breakdown of how I see things:

    1) Nose Tackle - Barry Cofield did a remarkable job, especially considering he's undersized. He is most likely our best defensive lineman at the moment, though Bowen and Carriker are solid in their own right. But I like the versatility that Cofield could bring us as an overall DL and not just a nose. For this teason, I think we need a solid nose tackle (should one be available). This is a high priority position for me, as in I'd like to see us spend a high pick on it in the draft, but there are prospects who are available in the middle rounds. If none of those guys are the BPA, I think we can pass on nose and be productive. If we get a shot at a top tier guy, I think we need to take it. A stud nose in combiantion with Carriker, Jenkins, Cofield and Bowen would make our defensive line extremely formidable. There is only one real Nose FA prospect and that's Terrance Knighton. I'm not overly high on him.

    2) Inside Linebacker - I think our inside backer situation is better than most believe it to be. However, we do need depth, even if London returns. I like London and Perry, both are solid players. And I think Keenan Robinson is a much better option to replace London than many due. He flashed big time. But I'd like to bring in help there as well, and I think Tavares Gooden is a good option. He's spent time with SF and BAL and played behind Bowman, Willis and Lewis. He can offer competition for Robinson and depth for the roster.

    3) Pass Rush LB - Re-sign Rob Jackson. If not, take a look at Victor Butler. If Rak's health is a concern, we may want to look into Paul Kruger. But I think he'll be re-signed by Baltimore. They can't afford to lose Lewis and Kruger (and maybe Cary Williams/Ed Reed (FA, but I'd guess he'd retire before playing elsewhere))

    4) Safeties - Dream scenario: DJ Swearinger and Bacari Rambo in the draft. Keep Doughty and move Hall to a Charles Woodson hybrid role on a new, much more affordable contract. See what Pugh and Bernstine have to offer in camp. Also, keep Brandon Meriweather if he is healthy. We'd have a nice camp battle here and our weakest position would immediately be the strongest. Having said that, I'd imagine we get one out of Swearinger and Rambo so that we can use the other pick on other upgrades. I think we need to do our best to land one of the two, however.

    5) Tight End - Money is an issue. Fred Davis has been phenomenal, and I don't like the idea of parting with him. But he's missed more games than any of us would like the last two years for various reasons and his price tag might be quite high. If he'd take a more modest deal, I'm all about re-upping him. If not, I'd like to see us go after a Jared Cook or Michael Bennett type in FA. Also, the later rounds have some solid TE prospects in the upcoming draft.

    6) Corner - If DeAngelo Hall makes a move to safety, that leaves a vacant spot. Names like Cary Williams come into play at that point in free agency. We also have Richard Crawford and Chase Minnifield on the roster. Crawford flashed, but I'm not sure he's ready for the big time yet. Minnifield is a huge question mark. He has talent, but we'll have to see if he can come back strong or not. Leodis McKelvin is another interesting name. Not a great corner, but he's a good return man as well. Crawford did well in the punt return game, but we could use an upgrade on kick returns, although Paul did admirably.

    7) Right Tackle - I'm fine with Polumbus being re-upped. Could we use an upgrade? Yes. But with Maurice Hurt and Tom Compton waiting in the wings, this may be a position that we have to stay tight on in order to make the other necessary upgrades.

    8) Fullback - Nothing more needs to be said. Darrell Young. Period. Get it done by any means necessary.

    9) Wide Receiver Depth - I like our receiving corps. I think Robinson is a spot duty guy who can be a big time role player for us. I like Garcon and Morgan as well. Moss is getting older but he may have one more year in him. And Hankerson needs to have his big year this year. Having said all of that, I'd like to see us take a flyer on a guy like Ramses Barden or Brandon Gibson. Carrying six receivers isn't all that odd in the new era of the NFL. It would allow us to do more gameplan type moves as far as receiving corps goes, and I think all six are guys who could be productive. Dezmon Briscoe, unless he shows a ton of improvement, and Brandon Banks are likely gone.

    10) Quarterback - With Griffin's health a concern for the upcoming year, keeping Kirk Cousins is imperative. It's literally not an option. Trading him now is a huge mistake. I also don't believe that keeping Grossman on the roster is all that great of a plan unless it becomes apparent that Griffin can't help us this year. Here, I really like the idea of trying to get Nick Florence from Baylor in the draft. He's not a stud by any means, but, he's familiar with the things we do by proxy. Drafting Florence would likely mean Griffin is at least healthy and recovered enough to play and we'd keep Griffin, Cousins and Florence on the roster. Otherwise, if Griff can't go, I'd go with Cousins, Grossman and either Florence or FA Josh Johnson.

Not so fast my friend. Garcon wasn't known as a blocker when he got here. A lot of it is the culture of the team and the unit when you arrive. If the WR and TE corps of the Redskins takes pride in being able to make the big play AND make the big block, he'll realize right away if he wants playing time, that he'll block.

Baker got double teamed a lot, but he had endurance issues because of his weight and lack of playing time until the season. I am also very high on Neild (if healthy) as well. If he can come back strong, these two should rotate. No disrespect to Cofield, he's been a beast, but these two can be monsters.

My hope for NT. Seems to fit what we are looking for. Romney Fuga.

I'd add Tanard Jackson to this list. I like what I saw with Pugh (at times) and it was a shame what happened with Bernstine so early in the season. Other than that, I like where your head is at.

And it should be noted and stamped that D. Hall was fantastic blitzing out of the secondary this season as well. When he was a FS, he didn't perform as well... I suspect that'll come with reps.

    6) Corner - If DeAngelo Hall makes a move to safety, that leaves a vacant spot. Names like Cary Williams come into play at that point in free agency. To me, we need one solid pickup here and it'll completely change the defense. If we can somewhat lockdown half of the field, that'll allow a lot of creativity with a very talented front seven.

    7) Right Tackle - I'm fine with Polumbus being re-upped. Could we use an upgrade? Yes. But with Maurice Hurt and Tom Compton waiting in the wings, this may be a position that we have to stay tight on in order to make the other necessary upgrades.
This is exactly how I feel. Unless we are getting cap relief or a great deal for Andre Smith or Will Beatty, I think it's a tough decision but you'd have to leave this area alone and focus on the defense.

    10) Quarterback - Nick Florence from Baylor in the draft or FA Josh Johnson.
I like when we agree, KD. It makes things a hell of a lot easier for the rest of this board, hahaha.

A lot of people are saying NT. Anyone think Neild just may be that guy? I know an ACL injury is going to push him back on his development but he has shown flashes in the past, is only 25 years old and he has the size at 6 feet 2 inches and 325lbs.

I wasn't all that impressed with Neild the year prior. But development takes time. If he studied and did his homework this year, he could be that guy. Coaches will have a better idea than we will, seeing how they are able to evaluate him on a daily basis. But sure, he could be. But there are guys in the draft, even in the second/third rounds, who I feel would be an upgrade. After that, I think we stick with what we have.

Gonna have to disagree with you. When you are the number one rushing offense in the NFL you dont want to change it unless you have to. And unfortunately we have to. RG3 will not make it 5 years in the current offense.

What I noticed is that Neild didn't always get push, but he hardly ever got moved.

Baker get's push. A lot. He's like the big kid in there with all of the regular sized 8 year olds... just throwing them around like kids.

Cofield is very good with his hands, but he gets pushed back all of the time. I know he's in there longer, but I think that he is still a little indecisive and would be better served coming off the edge or lining up on the inside shoulder of the tackle. The way he used his hands will pay off out there in both the pass (rushing and batting balls) and the running game (getting push and tackling).

Guy's dont have time right now but you should do some research on NT Romney Fuga. I think he will make it on your wish list in the draft.

Even if he slides more and runs out of bounds more? I think people are overreacting to the injury. Kinda a large blanket statement to make that he won't last five years. That is a lot of assuming.
