AFC cuts likely to happen: http://m.nfl.com/news/0ap1000000140448/

Brisiel might be available to us and royal could get the axe also. Anxious to see who we cut so we can get an idea of maybe they will fill the spots in fa or the draft...
Could we have davis an lewis at our TE's spots next yr?

Skins have added bodies in free agency alone for the dline and I would expect many more to come during and after the draft. The question becomes, Is Carriker an impact player to demand $4 million dollars on the dline?

Just a matter of him feeling comfortable with himself. He hit rehab hard from what I heard and we were really happy with his work ethic.

Skins signing Merling and Brace ( both are LDEs) is a indicator they are trying to find bodies for the rotation. That could mean they don't plan on having Golston back or it could mean they want to find cheap experienced bodies behind Jenkins.
I would side with Golston being let go. He was horrible save for about 5 plays this year and every time he was in (especially at RDE) he was gashed and it was embarrassing. Nonetheless we are likely talking about freeing up $2.5 - $3 mil by keeping JJ and one of these players over Carriker and Golston.

Executive VP Stephen Jones says the cap-strapped Cowboys haven't entirely ruled out using the franchise tag.
"We have Plan A, B, C, D, E," Jones said. "Some of those plans include the franchise tag." Jones is wise to never say never, but it's extremely unlikely the Cowboys clear enough cap space between now and March 4 to feel comfortable franchising OLB Anthony Spencer, their only viable candidate. Spencer would be due $10.6 million if tagged for the second consecutive season.

Contrary to earlier reports, Profootballtalk.com reports the Falcons have not ruled out using the franchise tag, and that free agent SS William Moore is the "most obvious candidate."
Moore is one of the more obvious franchise-tag candidates in the league, as he has a checkered injury history, reportedly wants to test the open market and the tag for safeties is reasonably priced ($6.798 million). Whatever future reports suggest, there's a good chance Moore will be tagged between now and the March 4 deadline.

Executive VP Stephen Jones says he's not "necessarily confident" the Cowboys will agree to an extension with Tony Romo in the near future.
"We’ve got to have both sides wanting to do something," Jones said, perhaps hinting Romo is in no hurry to bail the Cowboys out of their messy cap situation. Jerry's son does insist he's optimistic. "These things happen fast when they happen. We’re in good shape." Romo's $16.8 million cap number is the biggest for a team that still has a lot of maneuvering to do. Jones concedes "losing players" is a possibility if a deal isn't hammered out before free agency. Perhaps Romo will take advantage of the Cowboys' desperation by getting an extra year or two tacked onto what should reasonably be a three-year pact.

Free agent LT Ryan Clady says he won't immediately sign his tender upon being franchise tagged, but will "eventually."
"Not right now," Clady said when asked if he'd immediately sign. "I’d try to get done something by this summer, and if not, eventually, yes, I will sign. But as of right now? No." It's an indication Clady plans to skip OTAs and minicamp, but won't make trouble if the mid-summer deadline to sign franchise players to long-term deals comes and goes without an agreement. Clady should be formally tagged any day now.

I was just catching up with NFL Total Access' show with Richard Sherman on it. Sherman was asked about who besides him are the best corners: he mentioned the Jets, Cromartie and Revis, Tillman and free agent to be Kennan Lewis.

Though interesting LL mentioned Greg Toler as a player the team is looking at. 28 years old and tall at least in context of our short corners. I don't care for Pete Prisco but interesting that he puts him at the #1 underated free agent.

The New Orleans Saints released TE David Thomas and waived CB Johnny Patrick Tuesday, Feb. 19.

David Thomas would be a good backup fullback but I'm not sure he'd provide anymore than Logan Paulsen as far as pass catching...

Johnny Patrick, drafted in the 3rd round in 2011

I'm just anxious for something to drop regarding restructures or releases. Too much speculation going on ...

Is there a consensus that the team will pursue a FA corner? What if Hall restructures. Toller is 28 ... Lewis is 26? Lewis would make more sense if you're signing him to move Hall to nickel for a couple years while you let Crawford, Minnefield and any near-future draft picks to compete for Hall's replacement in 2014, 15 etc.

If we sign either one and keep Hall, I'd imagine we don't touch CB in the draft ... just too many bodies at that rate.

I agree that by signing Lynch, Lewis/Toller and re-signing Fred or getting James Casey you open up the draft to BPA. I still think the team would address safety for competition and depth relatively early, but the burden wouldn't be there to reach for one in the 2nd round.

Drafttek's latest mock has the Skins taking RT Abouji in the 2nd, an OG in the 3rd and TJ McDonald in the 4th. If McDonald or Duke Williams were there in the 4th that would be a nice spot to take a guy to spell Lynch/Meriweather. And while it's unlikely, I'm still 100% on the Tyrann Mathieu bandwagon. If he can be had in the 5th his value as both a nickel CB, potential FS and KR/PR threat is just way too much not to take a flyer.

We won't be making any progress with Fred Davis until late Spring when we can get a better look at that achilles.

Sebastian Vollmer - T - Patriots ESPN's Mike Reiss believes the Patriots will make a $6-7 million per year offer to RT Sebastian Vollmer before free agency opens.
Vollmer won't have much to lose by testing the market. As one of the best available tackles, he could very well garner a bigger deal elsewhere. If Vollmer does walk, Reiss suggests 2011 fifth-rounder Marcus Cannon or potential first-round pick D.J. Fluker as replacement candidates. Related: D.J. Fluker, Marcus Cannon

#Redskins have had contact with Moss and his agents about restructuring his deal as expected.

@Rich_TandlerCSN @SimoneBett AC cap hit jumps to $6+ in 2014. Invested a high pick in JJ and you don't develop on the bench.

Nah, I wanted a job in DC to relax for a little bit after 8 years of alpha male infested days, hahaha. But now I am getting ready to PCS to Fort Bragg in September... need to decide what to do with my tickets amongst other things.

#Redskins No contact with Halls agent yet. Wouldn't read too much into that, could go down at the combine.

Free agent QB JaMarcus Russell recently registered a 5.2 forty-yard dash and 29-inch vertical as he attempts his NFL comeback.
Russell is training at the TEST Football Academy in San Diego. "I think he's got some hills to climb," acknowledged TEST CEO Brian Martin. Russell's goals are a 4.8 forty time and 33-inch vertical. "I'm heavier than normal," conceded Russell, who weighed 310 when he began his comeback. Russell's weight goal is 265. He's planning a Pro Day-type workout at some point this offseason.

A source tells the Washington Post that free agent Fred Davis (torn Achilles) is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery.
The source here could be Davis' agent, who will be trying to drum up interest for his client ahead of free agency. The Redskins have already stated that they won't make a decision on Davis until later in the spring, presumably when they can get a better look at his progress. He ruptured his left Achilles' tendon on Oct. 21 and is no lock to be ready for Week 1 of next season.

I know we like to keep draft news out of here, but here's this:

LSU CB Tyrann Mathieu recently clocked a 4.47 forty-yard dash during pre-Combine training.
Mathieu is training with Patrick Peterson in Boca Raton (FL), and it's paying dividends. "He's going to be good," said Peterson Sr. "He's looking like Tyrann. He's staying away from the off-field stuff and he's focused. He looks like he means business, very locked in." A forty time in the 4.4s could help Mathieu's stock. League evaluators believe he won't time better than 4.5.

Oh the Sunday Ticket is standard issue for me when I'm not in the area (which has been since I graduated High School up until a couple of years ago). I'm upset about leaving now that we are getting good, but I'm close enough to ride up for a big game or two each year.

Even if you don't have DTV, I got Sunday Ticket on the PS3 for $250 last year. Offered it last minute, likely will again this year.

Don't know if you saw the ESPN video they did of Mathieu but dude cried though alot of it. I truly believe he is sorry for all the things that he did. I think he may be dedicated. IF he were to fall to the 4th round and we had a chance to draft him, we should. I think with his athletic abilities he could be special. We need corners, bad.

yeah, it just sucks that the drive is about 5 or 6 hrs depending on traffic, I would go up once a year for the dallas game usually, and that drive sucks.
