It smells of the Spurrier offense where you threw to "areas of the field" versus "actually throwing to the receiver" who's running the route.

There are elements of his style in the Patriots offense. To me, it's all about conditioning and adjustments when playing those types of teams. It'll definitely be interesting.

Also a poor cut blocker, as he fails to execute good angles to get out and neutralize second-level defenders. Despite his quickness, he is not considered a deep threat that can challenge the secondary often (adequate cutting ability is the main culprit). Compares To: ERIC JOHNSON-New Orleans...As a move-oriented H-back, Keller will bring decent value in the middle rounds of the draft. Like Johnson, he is really more of a big possession receiver. He doesn't love to block and doesn't show great desire to combat for the ball in a crowd. He uses his body well to settle in the soft areas on the field and does a good job working back to the quarterback on broken plays.
Those are bits and pieces from his draft report.

Has anyone watched enough of him to know if these are still issues with his game or as he improved in these areas. If he doesn't block well or catch in traffic he doesn't seem like a guy that would add much to our offense.

Laxpunk - This is from 2 weeks ago.

Keller represents a difficult decision for the Jets in what will be an incredibly important offseason for the franchise. Keller -- a first-round pick by the team in 2008 -- will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. He never missed a game before this season and is easily Mark Sanchez's must-trusted target.

Keller said this week he didn't want the Jets to use their franchise tag on him, and the Jets might not be in the position to give Keller the multiyear deal he covets. A one-year, franchise-tag salary for Keller would be $5.962 million, a figure expected to be within the Jets' budget, according to the New York Daily News.

When healthy, Keller is an above-average pass-catcher and effective blocker in the run game. In a time when the Jets' dearth of offensive weapons reportedly led to coach Rex Ryan thinking about an exit strategy from Florham Park, letting Keller walk out the door makes little sense.

The Jets have to make sure Keller is back in 2013 -- even if the method by which they achieve that goal doesn't sit well with the tight end.

    per rotoworld:

Appearing on ESPN Radio Tuesday morning, Adam Schefter suggested the Jets trade Darrelle Revis for Alex Smith and a second-round pick.
Schefter was just spitballing with Mike and Mike, not reporting. The Jets desperately need quarterback help, Alex Smith is on the block and everyone would be interested in a healthy Revis. The ultra-deep Niners are even in a position to take a one-year flier on Revis, who is due just $6 million in 2013 -- the final year of his contract.[COLOR="Gold"]

Once he gets his guys to run the scheme we'll see more of the Oregon offense but I dobut that happens until season 3 when the roster will have been filled with Kelly's guys. I think for the first two years we'll see a more traditional NFL offense slowly being phased into what Chip Kelly likes (they may tank the season QB Marcus Marriota is eligible for the draft).
I agree he won't run his offense like at Oregon. 1.5 seconds would be like running a 3-step drop only passing game. Which would be very, very limitied slants, screens, hitches and shallow crosses and the occasional fade route.
The irony or coincidence is that Kelly hired Pat Shurmur as his OC and Shurmur is the king of the quick passing 3-step drop WCO ( and the resulting low YPA).

I think Kelly should have hired Tom Clements form Green Bay their style WCO is closer to how I imagine Kelly would wants his NFL style offense to look.

A lot of uptempo-quasi-no-huddle with shotgun /spread formation with quick passng game catch and throw+3 step game with a lot of bubble screens/slip screens/tunnel screens and zone-read+zone-read play action.

ESPN New York considers LT Will Beatty the Giants' "biggest" free agent.
Despite some ongoing back woes, Beatty was solid while guarding Eli Manning's blind side in all 16 games. Turning 28 in March and entering his prime, he'll be looking for franchise left tackle kind of money. We have Beatty ranked sixth among free agent tackles, behind only Ryan Clady, Andre Smith, Branden Albert, Jake Long and Sebastian Vollmer.

Interesting to see no mention of Gosder Cherilus and Phil Loadholt who were rated as the #2 RT's for pass and run blocking in all of football and are free agents.

I know I certainly wouldn't mind having two Oklahoma bookend Tackles, minus Jammal Brown.

Well this stinks, even if he doesn't deserve top dollar, he's going to be looking for it, which probably means he's out of our price range.

We might need to start looking back at our 2nd rounder for an OT.

    He's a LT anyway, I doubt he'd take a RT position.

Well the TE's in our scheme don't really do the conventional blocking all that much. We had our guys going against the grain instead of blocking in line. What does bother me though, is that he's bad at blocking in the 2nd level.

Ok, I've now seen enough offseason plans which include resigning Kedric Golston... This dude needs to go. He's a classy guy which is good, but he doesn't need to be on the field. He's better suited as a backup DT in a 4-3 anyway. He's one of those guys who, to me, is only out on the field to make sure we have 11 guys out there and doesn't really provide anything.

He's making $760,000 this year which I'm sure is the vet min and will go up a little bit this year to I believe, $814,000. That's only $100,000 less than Richard Seymour was paid.... Please sign someone like Seymour if we need the veteran presence and someone who can actually still play the position to a 'T.'

He's allegedly a "glue guy" in the locker room, but he's horrible on the field. Especially in the run game.

I wouldn't care if Elmer's Glue wanted to sponsor Golston, he doesn't hold a candle to what Richard Seymour can do on the field and in the locker room... and it's not a high priced FA signing either which is amazing with his production levels. A declining Seymour is better than Golston in his prime any day of the week and on a 1-2 year contract for our playoff contending team, make it happen.

Even if it's not Seymour, there are quite a few upgrades in FA.

I agree. Everytime he goes in offenses love running right over that highway that he creates on the left side of the offensive line. It was like clockwork. But he's one of Lorenzo's boys so it'll be interesting to see. Zo, Kedric, and Chris Wilson are all very close friends. I'm okay with keeping Lorenzo because of his character, but if there is a LB that is more talented than him that gets cut I will be furious. I thought we should've kept Kehl over him this season. I love his character but his overall skill doesn't sniff Vic So'oto (at OLB) or Roderick Muckelroy (at ILB) and his upside is almost maxed out because of his age.

That said, he's lost weight, gained weight, learned positions, and given more effort than any player in the last 20 years of this franchise easily. It's hard to let someone like that go, especially coming off of a Pro Bowl nomination, but we may just have to.

Two out of three of those guys should be gone without question. Especially if we draft a NT or keep Neild AND Baker and move Cofield to DE. Should be interesting.

I agree with this. Not really sure why Golston continues to be seen as "in the plans" for the Redskins. He's a nice enough guy and a solid locker room presence, but he simply does not fit this scheme and is really nothing more than a depth guy, IMO.
