Maybe Tony Carter, CB, Broncos. Age: 27 or Chris Houston, CB, Lions. Age: 28 to name a couple that MIGHT not cost the house.

I'd definately like to resign Zo and he could take over for Fletcher. He has more than earned it. He'd also be a cheaper option than looking at bringing in a high priced FA.

Tell me something, LL. What will be the status of keeping Fred Davis? Is he gone as well?

It would be very surprising to me (even if Keenan is 100% healthy) to see them start a second year ILB who basically missed his entire rookie season.

But, if Keenan is set to be a starter at ILB then it makes sense to keep Riley where he is and play Keenan in Fletch's role because he's seems like a closer skillset match.

With the year our linebackers had, particularly without Orakpo, I'm curious if attitudes have changed toward Slowik (as they have for Haz and, to a degree, Smith)?

Believe Smith will go to Steelers as he is 59 plus father lives there.
His clock management would have won several games for Pittsburgh and put them in playoffs.

Hard to tell if he will win the job but he will be given the opportunity to do so. They are very high on Keenan and the amount of games played this season is not a determining factor for 2013. Keenan earned more reps and began carving out a nice niche for himself before his injury vs Dallas. With Keenan it's all about how fast he picks up the mental game and he is more advanced than Perry was in his rookie season, where he only appeared in 8 games. Perry was slow to grasp the LB roles so it took him awhile to get onto the field as a starter.

As far as where they play.. Perry should stay where he is at but they might have to be flexible to work Keenan in early. Perry knows both spots now so ideally would work well temporarily.

They have big plans for Keenan. I don't expect many moves at ILB this offseason, Maybe a depth player who can spot start in case of emergency, but at some point you have to let your youth play. The young guys can only get so much experience in practice, Need game reps to grow.

Up in the air right now but will have a better feel on it mid- February. They are looking at a lot of college TEs and they really like Peterson from the practice squad... Makes you wonder.

Nobody is throwing him away but..

    1. He may Retire

    2. $7.5 million to a 38 year old MLB coming off a season where his age showed is a no no.. I don't see any possibility the Redskins pay that figure honestly.

Thanks for the info, LL. Interesting stuff. I would like to ask for your take on two items though. Firstly, regarding TE, do you hear if the FO has any interest in FA or are they going to be more geared towards drafting a TE should they replace Davis and let him walk? Lastly, I'd like to see Fletcher back for another season, but given his salary is astronomical (as you pointed out), is there any wa he returns for the 2013 season should he stave off retirement one more season? Thanks.

If I recall you posted on twitter that you think they are more likely to go safety as opposed to corner in FA because corners go for higher $$$. They had as we all know the cap penalty last year and still found the money to sign Garcon and Morgan. Grant Paulsen on 106.7 said at the senior bowl that talking to agents he got the vibe that the Redskins would be aggressive enough to try to address some needs in free agency, quote from one agent was there are 100 ways to go around the cap and the Redskins know all of them.

Well that may make sense. If we can get Phillips via FA and then get Rhodes or Poyer via the draft, that's a definite upgrade. Then you can get a weapon or two.

It's chicken and the egg right now, we know what we need, we just don't know when we are going for what (FA vs Draft). But it sounds like by going Safety in FA and maybe adding a depth player or two at a couple of positions, we may be alright heading into the draft to address some needs there.

Remember, we have two or three spots that MUST be addressed. The rest is just a little salt and pepper here and there for flavor .

    Morning/overnight nuggets from rotoworld.com:

Impending free agent LB Leroy Hill was arrested for domestic violence Tuesday.
It's the second time in the last four years that Hill has been popped for domestic violence. The last time, the charges were dismissed after he agreed to enroll in a treatment program. This time, he'll like be facing fourth-degree assault and unlawful imprisonment once formally charged. Hill has already been suspended for one game earlier in his career following two marijuana-related offenses. Teams showing interest in him come March will have to take into account another possible suspension.

For Greg Jennings fans out there:
A "friend" tells the Miami Herald free agent Brian Hartline hopes to earn an annual $6 million with his new contract.
The Herald had previously reported Hartline was seeking $5-$6 million. It's not an unreasonable request for a 26-year-old receiver coming off his first 1,000-yard season, but would make Hartline one of the higher paid No. 2/3 receivers in the league. That assumes he either gets away from Miami or the Dolphins sign a true No. 1 wideout. With the Dolphins so thin at receiver, retaining Hartline will likely be a priority.

We've already got Chris Houston up as a Top 5 cornerback target. I just added Tony Carter as well. Good recommendation.

The part about Jennings was supposed to be that he put his house on the market and is sure not to be returning to GB, right?

No, it's tracking the situations for perspective landing spots for Jennings.

Miami wants Jennings. They also have FA: Sean Smith (one of our favorite CBs), Jake Long (OT), and Brian Hartline (WR). They need to re-sign all of them and have plenty of cap space to do it. It'll just be interesting if they are giving Hartline $6 mil a year. I think they'd be able to make it work, but that would take a sting out of their ability to sign Jennings and resign Smith and Long. And they only have one franchise tag.

Just something to keep an eye on.

Ah got ya, that makes sense. Sorry....I was JUST on rotoworld and read this:

Impending free agent WR Greg Jennings placed his Green Bay home on the market Monday. For an asking price of $525,000, you can have Jennings' 4,788 square-foot house that is located 10 minutes away from Lambeau Field. It appears the Packers have already told the seven-year veteran that they won't be among the teams pursuing him when free agency opens in March. They're ready to move forward with Jordy Nelson, James Jones and Randall Cobb as their top three wideouts.*Jan 29 - 8:39 AM

No probs, I think I have a bit of a hypersensitive method of trying to figure things out. You don't want to trip and fall into this thought process brother.
And that James Jones guy? I was murdered for wanting him last year. lol.

    pre-lunch rotoworld nuggets:

London Fletcher has still not told his teammates if he'll be back next season.
Fletcher participated in last week's Pro Bowl, so he's still winding down and contemplating his decision. We'd be surprised if he the final verdict is retirement. Despite operating at age 37, Fletcher ranked eighth in the NFL in sacks, was the unquestioned leader of a team that won seven straight games to close the regular season and played in all 16 games for the 15th consecutive year. He's also due $5.5 million in 2013.

EDIT: Fletcher had 3 sacks for those wondering. Far from eighth in the NFL.***

ESPN's Dan Graziano says Giants impending free agent DE Osi Umenyiora is "almost certain" to be gone.
After being forced to restructure his contract and then playing behind Jason Pierre-Paul/Justin Tuck in 2012, Umenyiora sees the writing on the wall. His nine-year run with the Giants that saw him rack up 75.5 sacks and win two Super Bowls is likely over. Now 31 years old, Umenyiora is going to command more money than the G-Men are willing to pay a third end. He's our No. 2 defensive end available on the free-agent market, behind only Cliff Avril.
