Trent Williams Cap Hit in 2012 was 14 million.
    2013 is 8 million.
    2014 is 11 million.
    2015 is 14.25 million.

His cap hit this year is the lowest it's been since his rookie year. If we restructure now, then 2014 and 2015 will be gigantic.

Btw, Ware's cap hit is 16.6 mil and 18.1 mil for 2014 and 2015. That's way more than he's worth.
Yeah, again, Dallas is being so idiotic with their handlings here. But hey, more power to them!

If restructuring Trent meant we save some money this year ... even if it pushes it into next year, I could see it being okay. Next year we are looking at somewhere around $40-50 million in cap space. Of course, as of now, we'd only have 27 guys under contract. That will chance once guys like Moss/Hall/Orakpo/Wilson/Morgan are extended. Also, this year's draft picks and any free agents would add to that. But we could go into next year with around $30 million in cap space ... and that's if the cap stays completely flat.

$123.9 is the official cap number.

This is a bit of good news...about 3 mil more than this past year (it was 120MM, correct)?

    Based on that Shoup break-down:
Overall Total: $108.332 for 40 players
    2013 Projected NFL Cap: $120.900
    2012 Carry over: $4.200
2013 Dead Cap: $1.969 (mainly from Chris Cooley)
    2013 Cap Penalty: $18.000
    2013: Redskins Cap $ 105.131
    Cap Overage: $3.201

... so the NFL Cap is $3 million more than he has in his projections. So, by his math, the Redskins 2013 Cap will be $108.131 million ... which would put them at $200k OVER the cap. Very, very manageable.

AND, I may be incorrect, but I thought I read somewhere that this year's hit was actually $17.4 million. If that is the case, Shoup is short-changing us about $600k ... which would mean we are actually $400k UNDER the cap. Can someone corroborate?

Yeah they won't have the money to go nuts in free agency but I don't get the thrown out notion that the team will both be inactive with free agency AND lose a ton of their own players, too.
I did a very rough offseason moves projection earlier and it seemed to me then that our situation was easily manageable. And if they really make some cold decisions there will be room to not only re-sign who we want but to make limited but smart FA moves.

$123.9 mil is very big for us.

Sorry I haven't been very active today... work was a pain in the butt.

But, on my way home I caught Rich Campbell on the Sports Reports and he and Czaban loosely implied that Mike seemed unhappy with London Fletcher doing a tour on all of the networks. So the HTTR crew may be on to something.

Recently Mike did an interview with Larry Michael for Redskins Nation and when asked about Fletcher retiring he said something to the effect of "You are either retiring or you are not," and "the minute you start to think about retiring, you are basically retired." So, read into that what you will. And I'm as big a London fan as anyone, but $6.5 mil is a huge number. If that's gone and you get some restructuring done, you can add a couple of these FA CBs like Toler and Biggers and a FS like Lynch, re-up some of your guys and have money for your draft picks.

Should be interesting from here on out.

I'm not sure I really want to know, and I'll probably be able to tell based on how the opinions of the forum change..but what did the HTTR crew say about Fletch?

From what I saw above they said the team may need to release him with no cap relief from NFL.

You know, for as good as Graziano has been since he too over the NFC East blog, he's whiffed miserably on these last two "in depth" Redskins related topics. Not so badly on this one, but it's just generic and really doesn't say anything that isn't common knowledge. I know it's the slow time of year, but holy crap, man, lol.

I figured it was something like that.
In my eyes if there is one player on the team worth the money, cap relief or not, its London.

The problem with cutting Fletcher is that while it would save some cash, I think he's still owed like 3.5M in guaranteed money. While the money we save, about 3-4M could sign a few of our guys back, I just hate having that much dead cap, especially when we're so tight up against the cap. I want something concrete for that 3.5M, not just a pyrrhic victory.

That's why, if he isn't a Redskin next year, I really hope he's retired so that his contract is voided. If he's not retired he needs to be here, though then I really want us to do a restructuring down to about guaranteed money.

Rich Campbell just said we'd be $1.98 m over if the cap number reported is correct

Well something isn't adding up then. If, as ESPN 980 reported, the Redskins were exactly $4m over ... and the cap just went UP exactly $3m ... wouldn't we be at $1m? And where did Steve Shoup get his numbers for his breakdown. According to what he had, we'd be either $200k over or $400k under depending on whether our penalty is exactly $18 million or in fact, more like $17.4 million.

I love Rich, but I'm not sure he got it right. When it was announced by Mort on the Sports Reporters he said we were exactly 4 mil over still.

Yeah, I dunno. There's a lot of different numbers floating around. Just sharing what rich tweeted.
