Now I'm asking myself is this a Vinnie move? I guess the answer is if we can get him at a decent price we do it. We'd be able to line him up all over the place.
If we can fit him in let's get him.
I'm not sure you'd see him often in the pistol formation, except on obvious longer passing downs maybe. Because Morris' ridiculous vision is half of what makes the pistol offense so effective. There's no telling if Bush would actually be an upgrade there.

But as a passing-down back, returner, and occasional slot guy? Hell yes.

3 yr/ $15 mil contract, with a $5 mil signing bonus which can be spread against the 3 years.

I feel like that may be a lowball offer, but he could take the bait...

That's what many said about Fletcher too. And I bet it was also said about Dawkins. Was probably uttered quietly by some Falcons fans when they sent a 2nd for an aging Gonzalez, too.

Some guys age gracefully, and make up for their decline in physical skills with insane film study habits and work ethic. That rubs off on other players as well. So does being a respected leader.

These are things that Dawkins, Fletcher, Reed, and Gonzo all share. Older guys who switched teams after previous success, and continued to play at a high level and positively effect the players around them.

While the Dolphins are expected to make Bush a cursory "team-friendly" offer, the smart money is on the versatile back signing a short-term deal with a contender. Turning 28 in March, Bush is a long shot for a final mega contract even after averaging more than 1,000 rushing yards in two seasons with the Dolphins.

Keep an eye out for the Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions, two teams known to be seeking a more dynamic back with pass-catching ability and the outside speed to complement short-yardage pounders BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Mikel Leshoure.

I like how they refer to Mikel LeShoure as a short-yardage pounder just because he's large and slow. As if he's actually effective in those situations. People did the same thing with later-career Brandon Jacobs, as if his size and lack of explosiveness actually magically made him good in short-yardage situations. LeShoure post-injury (and I never loved him before) is one of the most boring, lacking "starting" RB's in the league. Every single time he was healthy Kevin Smith looked like twice the RB LeShoure was. Hell, I'd take Shonn Greene over him. And I hate Shonn Greene.

Sorry for the tangent, I just hate when big, slow RB's are just assumed to be bruisers and short-yardage specialists because of their size and lack of ability elsewhere in an offense. Hillis is in that same boat these last couple years.

Current situation: As it stands, with all our soon-to-be free agents off the books, the Redskins are $4 million over the projected 2013 salary cap.

    Cuts:
Meriweather, Brown, Moss for Projected Savings - $12 million

    Restructuring:
Hall, T Williams for Projected Savings - $6 million

    Retiring:
Fletcher(I still think this will happen) for Projected Savings - $6 million

Total Cap Room (adding the $4 million we are over): $20 million

    Redskins free agents who re-sign:
Golston, Jackson, Alexander. Total spent - $5 million

Redskins un-restricted free agents who we tender:
Baker, Paulsen. Total spent - $2 million

Total left for free agents and draft picks: $13 million

    Free Agent Signings:
    Sebastian Vollmer - OT(Patriots) $4.5 million/year
    Kenny Phillips - S(Giants) $3 million/year
    Sergio Kindle - LB(FA) $500k/year
    Total - $8 million

Money left to sign draft picks and un-drafted free agents: $5 million
That's not a terrible plan, but I have some reservations.

It puts a ton of pressure on Phillips and Thomas to be both starter quality and healthy. I'd sort of just leave the Meriweather - Phillips thing alone, we'd be flipping one mid-cost, injury prone safety for another, IMO.

Also, cutting Moss would save a lot of money, but that assumes we have someone who can take over in the slot, and I don't trust A. Robinson or D. Robinson on that. I think it'd be better to simply void his contract and re-sign him for cheaper, like 1-2M.

    Brown is a no-brainer though.

I don't think restructuring Trent is the answer either, his 2013 hit is pretty cheap, especially when compared to his 2014 and onward cost. So sure, we'd save a couple million, but we'd have him getting like 15M in subsequent years. Putting that much money in one basket concerns me, even with someone I like as much as Trent.

As for Fletcher, this only works if he retires. He's still guaranteed some 3.75M I think. If he decides to play another year, it's in our best interests he plays here. He might be a reasonable restructure candidate though, to bring his cap hit down to simply his guaranteed money.

Also, we need to re-sign Davis or someone similar. I would not be confident in a combination of Paul, Paulson, and Williams going into the season at TE.

    *Phew*

So I think the plan could ultimately work, but it requires everything and everyone involved to work out more or less perfectly. Phillips and Thomas would have to be starting safeties from day 1, Wreh-Wilson would have to be as good or better than Griffin.

Tell us how you really feel! LOL just messing, bro. I'm not a big LeShoure fan either but I do like watching BGE... he seems like a real humbled guy too. That being said, I want some Bush!

If Desmond Bishop comes back healthy, they'll go with Bishop. They also have major offensive line issues (still) and running back issues to go with their aging secondary.

Lol I just really hate when a purported news dispenser like Roto adds their own analysis to the end of the actual news blurb. They generally suck at it.

Well, it used to be easy. Back in the Vinny days it was "The Redskins are reported to be interested." Now, (1) we probably aren't interested, (2) most of us diehards have an idea but not a damn clue of who we really want, lol. It's gotta be hard to do actual work lol.

I liken them to PFT, they do a swell job reporting stuff, but I don't really listen to them when it comes to opining on play decisions and the finer points of the game or personnel.

That said, roto will be a huge member of this thread come the second week in March when the new league year starts because if they don't break it, they are typically right behind.

Yup, Roto is great for quickly getting out confirmed news. It's the baseless speculation, and the horrid spin they put on things sometimes that I hate.

    This morning's nuggets from rotoworld:

The Newark Star-Ledger reports the Jets have had "some very exploratory, informal discussions" regarding ex-Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell.
Russell, of course, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft and has been out of the league since 2009. However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported last week that Russell is planning to show his face at the NFL Scouting Combine next month in hopes of making a comeback. Russell is currently tipping the scales at 305 pounds, but hopes to get down to his past playing weight of around 260. The Star-Ledger says these talks happened after Mike Tannenbaum was fired, but it's unclear if John Idzik was in the fold, yet. Only the Jets.

Falcons signed CB Terrence Johnson to a reserve/future contract.
Johnson has appeared in 12 career games with the Colts and Falcons over the last two seasons. He'll be 27 years old at the start of next season, and his only value will be on special teams if he makes the team.

New Eagles coach Chip Kelly recently said quarterback sacks are the "cardinal sin" in his offense.
"The job of a quarterback is simple. He has to let it happen, and not make it happen. We want to move forward," Kelly said. "We want the ball out of the quarterback's hands in 1.5 seconds. That does not mean holding the ball until 2.5, waiting for someone to get open." Kelly went on to say that "every sack is the quarterback's fault." It's perhaps a bad sign for Michael Vick, who has taken 85 sacks in his last 35 games. Related: Nick FolesSource: Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News Jan 29 - 8:12 AM

I cant wait to see this fail. WR's in the NFL dont get open that quick. Most DB's can cover for 1.5.

I doubt Kelly will run his offense as he did in Oregon, at least he wont the first 2 seasons. We may see some elements of it, but, as things stand right now, Kelly does not have the players for his offense just yet. Once he gets his guys to run the scheme we'll see more of the Oregon offense but I dobut that happens until season 3 when the roster will have been filled with Kelly's guys. I think for the first two years we'll see a more traditional NFL offense slowly being phased into what Chip Kelly likes (they may tank the season QB Marcus Marriota is eligible for the draft).
