I'm not one to want us to take on "projects" this season. To me, that's OK to take flyers on guys like Jason Smith when you are 5-11 and have nothing to lose, but Shanahan is building a good team with depth and at this point, I want guys who can play and contribute.

Hopefully they bring back Rob Jackson & Lo Alexander. Anyone who watches the Skins, knows why.

Another guy I would like to see come back, and he would be on the cheap, would be Tanard Jackson. He might not be the answer as a satrter, but he would be a great backup.

I am not sure about Sleepy Davis. I think that he can be a top 5 TE in this league, but I am just not sure if he fits our offense. S. Shape was great w/ Shanny in Denver, but Kyle doesn't seem to use the TE like his pops. If Davis is looking to cash in a big contract, let him go and go after another TE...there will be a ton on the market this year.

Any word on on who McShay or Kiper have the Skins picking in the 2nd rd?

I just think tight ends are like running backs, you can find them.

Because of the cap hit and the questions surrounding Davis... certainly don't/can't franchise him again... I think Davis is gone unless he accepts a really low contract offer. We can do well with a quality tight end and not a superstar. Heck, Logan Paulson made some big plays for us.

As for the draft, BPA, but I think hey are hoping for a safety or db.

Agree, we need Lo and Jackson back. Play makers. I do not see us paying Davis a bunch of money. Paulsen did fine at the TE spot and we can find a cheaper TE our there. Off a pretty serious injury and with the drug thing in his past, not sure a lot of teams are going to throw a huge contract at him, but I think someone will. Safety, CB are immidiate needs.

I agree I don't think we go after Davis this year. He did show some good things at the start of the season before getting injured, but he needed to have a great full season to justify the contract he'll be looking for. If we didn't have the cap hit, we'd definitely re-sign him I think..

His tackling may be a problem, but in general he was definitely starting FS material in Tampa. .
Maybe IMO. In his young career, he's already been suspended 39 games. I haven't done the math but I presume he's been suspended more than actually played or close to it. So, if we bring him back, we need to take in account that there is probably a 50/50 shot he relapses and is suspended again. My point no way I'd trust him as a solution, maybe 2nd backup.

really to bring T Jackson back on a vet minimum deal is a no brainer... I see how people think this guy is going to be a cancer and hurt the locker room. Heck he was with the whole offseason and preseason last year and it surely did not look like it hurt the team attitude...

I agree that we can't depend on T Jackson to be the ultimate solution at one of the safety positions until he can prove to the team that he can stay away from weed. But it is not like the Redskins is ever going to give him any contract that does not reflect this reality.

I can see the reason for concern but can't understand why some people are so strongly against it.

I don't think he's a locker room cancer, its just clearly in his career he can't stay away from the weed. Davis and Williams have blown it one year but they seemed to get over the hump. This guy isn't like Davis and Williams suspended for 4 games. He's been suspended for 39 games. He's already gotten a suspension that lasted more than a season. If he blows this again, I'd presume he's suspended for 2 seasons. There are so many chances the NFL will give him. and for good measure, he can't practice with the team all off season -- you have to hope he's in shape and is ready with little preparation. Tampa Bay might be the only team with a worst secondary than us, its not like they were loaded back there, and they moved on from him.

If we retain Meriweather (which I hear we have every inclination to do) and we bring back Tanard Jackson on a vet. minimum ... our safety situation is at least bandaged (I know, same as last year, etc). But what are the chances Jackson is suspended a whole year PLUS Meriweather misses the whole season again? One of those two will work out, if not from a pure depth perspective. If you couple those two with a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick (probably at FS) you have a bandage and potential, which isn't too bad given what we faced this past season at the position. And Wasn't DJ Gomes a 6th rounder? Yeah, for all the hope that he would be a "diamond in the rough" you can't expect much more than a decent backup and special teams player at that point. So to call him a bust or a disappointment is unfair.

    FS: Phillip Thomas, Tanard Jackson
    SS: Brandon Meriweather, DJ Gomes
    Other: Jordan Bernstein

    I'd be okay with that.

Yep. If we franchise Davis it'll go up a percentage (so over $6 mil against this years cap) because it will be the second year in a row we've used the tag. According to Mike Jones yesterday, both Fred and his agent know it's not going to be a big payday coming off an injury. Hopefully we can get him for a fair price.

Okay, after yesterday, the guys on me have turned me on the Tanard Jackson situation. He won't be eligible for reinstatement until August.... which means IF he is allowed back he will have missed the whole offseason program. I think bringing in Lynch or Mundy is much better. Then if Jackson shows well in the pre-season, you find a way to hide him on the PUP or something for the first few weeks and if someone goes down you bring him up after week 6.

Assuming the 'skins bring in a FS in FA to start... if they don't draft a FS (because they go BPA), I'd be fine with jackson coming back. We're going to bring in at least one more body for camp, if that guy doesn't give you the upside Jackson does, then they should keep Jackson and have that player on speed dial in case Jackson doesn't pan out.

If they do draft a FS, then they should a) move on from Jackson, b) keep him as a 5th safety, or c) have him on speed dial if one our guys gets hurt.

I will say this is based on my understanding (big assumption, but I think the FO should know) that he has been clean since coming to Washington. Pretty high reward/low risk guy as a backup, assuming we don't have a better option on the team.

Lastly, wasn't there talk that his poor tackling stemmed (at least to some extent) from his shoulder injury?

He would be about 5 or 6 down on the list of guys coming into FA this year at that Position anyways... he won't get paid no matter what. Might as well come try and get a ring.

    kind of unfair question...

So if Redskins offer him an under the market contract and Davis leaves then its on Davis that he doesnt want to be with the Redskins?
