Can we please stop with the one piece will complete our puzzle outlook on this team? I loved our run to get in the playoffs but that does not make us contenders. We went seven in a row but also was 3 and 6 up to that point. We also did that with our franchise qb whom we do not for sure have a definate time table for his return. Personally i have enjoyed the infusion of youth over the last two seasons...this is what a rebuild feels like. We are not an aging vet like Seymore away, we are a cb, safety duo, rt, maybe ilb, and dl depth away.

So many hypocritical things wrong with this post, I don't know where to begin... and no one said we were one piece away, that's what this thread is about. I do believe winning the NFCEast with a decimated defense is a contender, I mean, this is football right?

I'm not necessarily a fan of bringing Seymour in, I would have to look more closely at his recent production. That being said the previous posts were discussing Seymour possibly being a vet-min type guy. Wouldn't that be the dl depth you mentioned? I didn't once see someone say that Seymour is the solution to all of our problems or suggest we offer him a high paying long term contract. I read 1-2 years and somewhere around vet minimum. Whether he wins a starting job or acts as a role player that would still be a beneficial cost/production situation for this team.

So again, not sure how I would feel about bringing him in, but your post seems way off base from the actual discussion that took place.

we have plenty of DL depth. And how many ILBs do we need. Besides Fletcher we have drafted Riley and Robinson, signed a guy who was drafted in the same round as them, brought back Kehl and shifted Alexander over.

Also at the point we were 3-6 we could have been 4-5 with one different player in the secondary.

Believe Morris is interviewing in Chicago Saturday for the Bears DC job.

Don't know how he'd do as an OC. LOL. Just kidding, I knew you meant DC.

Ah....the younger generation.....no faith......Joe Gibbs started out 0-5 and his Redskins went on to win 8 of the last 11 games to end the season with an 8-8 record. The following year.....well....they won the first of three Super Bowls!
"That's not enough rings," Griffin said. "We've got to get more."
"Alright, Sammy," Griffin said. "I'll see you later."

SkinsFanMania Thanks for the correction and DC just was hired, so Morris is still with us and I am glad

I haven't seen anyone (in any thread, really) say we're one piece away.
So since we started 3-6 does that discount our 7 game run? I'm not sure quite what you're getting at.
Not contenders? We might not be as good as we looked on our win streak, but going to the playoffs (and winning your division) is pretty much the definition of contending. To top it off, we were the second most injured team in the league. Griffin's injury is a definite concern, but we've got a lot going for us.
I agree (except for d-line depth, we have plenty) about the needs we have. Really though, if we re-sign our key FAs we can affor to stand pat everywhere but FS and third down back (if Helu doesn't get healthy.
I look at it this way:
We are ok at SS, even if Meriweather isn't ready for the opener.
Cb would be nice, but we can probably improve there just by improving our safety play and pass rush.
If Fletcher returns we are fairly solid at ILB (Fletch, Riley, Robinson and Alexander).
D-line has: Nield, Baker and Cofield at NT; Worthington, Bowen, Carriker and Jenkins at DE. That's a solid group.
RT would be nice to upgrade, but obviously our offense can function at a very high level without changing RT.

Anyway, we're contenders right now (or we were anyway), and we should improve without making changes. So if we find a few more pieces (and we definitely can) we should make a pretty big jump as a team.

I agree with the prevailing need at safety and MLB worries me. Like everyone here I love Fletcher but his age scares me. When he got banged up mid season I kept wondering who would assume that role, Riley, Robinson? Keenan Robinson showed some glimpses but not sure if he could fill those shoes. When thinking about MLB I'm torn on one hand I'd like to groom Keenan and Riley as the future once London is done. On the other hand I wouldn't mind getting a Bart Scott type just as insurance. I know he was terrible with the jets but as a backup it could be a nice luxury. Cb, I really am hopeful chase makes the team and plays nickel. I'm very high on him and liked what I saw from Crawford too

    Default Inside Linebacking

I like the ILB tandem of Perry Riley and Kennan Robinson going forward.
Fletch comes back for 1 more season.
Perry Riley is already a solid LB.
Kennan Robinson is waiting the wings as the other ILB.

Yeah, if Fletcher comes back I'm content to stay pat. If he doesn't, that's an issue. I think having safeties that could cover a linebacker may help as well.

who says Robinson has to fill Fletcher's shoes. Riley can step up and fill Fletch's and Robinson can fill in Riley's

I agree. Due to our cap situation IF Fletch comes back he may have to at a discount due to his age. I know he played lights out but we have to spend our limited monies wisely on our secondary in FA and that might only be getting one player at the CB, S or RT position.
