Everyone here says "we need a NT that commands double teams and can rush the passer"... well so do about 28 other teams.
I agree, they are very hard to find. Prob going to have to find a guy in the draft. They dont have to be as good as the two i mentioned....like you said there are not a lot of these guys out there..im just saying it should be something we look to try an add.

Yep. Fat, slow, and lazy doesn't fit in with what this defense wants to do. Our practice squad LB's have more heart than Rey. Sad, because he had a lot of talent. Hopefully Dallas picks him up.

Totally agree. Anytime you are willing to take a chance on Burficts given talent and given penalties over a first round pick... man, things aren't looking good for you. Someone will take a chance on him. I think Muckelroy was a much better get than Rey M. would be.

Don't sleep on Chigbo! Kory Lich came out of a futures contract as well! We may have a guy or two ready to contribute!

Baker got double teamed a lot, but he had endurance issues because of his weight and lack of playing time until the season. I am also very high on Neild (if healthy) as well. If he can come back strong, these two should rotate. No disrespect to Cofield, he's been a beast, but these two can be monsters.
I am sure Shanny saw something in Garcon that he liked as a blocker, also Cofield had his best year, imagine him with Rak and Carriker back. I think the DL is pretty tight including the LBers, maybe the only D changes are depth upgrades and safety/corner.

I could be wrong but I thought there was an article that came out about 4 or 5 days ago stating that Fletcher might be thinking about retirement after this season. If so, we might have to target a FA ILB or draft a ILB high in the draft.

I agree! And I like what little I've seen out of this Vic So'oto cat that we snatched from the Packers practice sqaud. The front seven battles are going to be epic and fun to watch, because I suspect you are going to see at least two, maybe three guys who contributed a lot of playing time this season not even make the team next year. Man this is going to be fun... bittersweet but fun.

I've seen this through twitter. I can't remember who tweeted it but I remember being upset. This guy is a beast and if he doesn't comeback to play, he needs to coach his position. He has a natural instinct that can't be figured out on your own. I will probably try to get his jersey at some point in my life.

Yes, you are correct he is contemplating. I do fully expect him to come back for one more ride. We will actually be picked to do some damage next season... he deserves to be on this ride, especially after the second half of the season he had. If he doesn't, I have full faith in what we've accrued at the position the last couple of offseasons.

I think that's why they drafted Keenan Robinson last year. He is up to the task IMO and just needs the chance to prove it.

i know ppl want a new RT, but lets look at this realistically. We have a huge cap penalty coming again this yr, and wont be able to afford much in the offseason. Of all the positions of need, I think RT is one of the LEAST needed spots. Dont get me wrong, its a very important position and we could absolutely use an upgrade over Polumbus, but when looking at other holes, we have bigger needs.

Polumbus may not be great, but he's servicable. You forget that our offense was one of the best in the NFL, with Polumbus as a starter. The more reps he gets will only improve his play too. Again, I am not saying he is our long term starter or even that he is good, but I think he is servicable and that you will see him back as the starter next year until we lose the cap situation, then maybe we will sign a replacement.

Ryan Harris to me is on par with Polumbus. Not a great pass blocker but does well in the ZBS. With Compton and Hurt showing they can play there too, I would bet that we pick up a swing tackle who can play LT and RT to replace Black. Harris is a RT, Polumbus is a RT, Hurt is a G/RT, Compton is a unknown. We need to mix in a LT/RT into the depth instead of stocking up on RTs IMO. I resign Polumbus for cheap and pass on Harris and look for a swing tackle in free agency who can back up both spots

    ---------- Post added January-14th-2013 at 01:47 PM ----------

I was just looking at the UFA list. 2 O Lineman are on there in Polumbus and Lichensteiger. I think Polumbus will get a cap friendly offer and be back, but what do you think about Lichensteiger? He had another good yr and is a quality ZBS lineman.......BUT with LeRibus coming into his own in relief of Lichensteiger and playing pretty well late in the season, and with the 18mm cap hit do we resign Lichensteiger? This is where decisions get tough for the front office. IMO, I think we may see Lichensteiger back IF he agrees to a friendly deal....if he wants good money he may be going elsewhere and we may be seeing LeRibus as our starter next season. Good teams have young, CHEAP players who can fill in when they lose a player to FA.

If LeRibus starts, does Gettis become the primary backup now?

Pretty good write up by our guys at httr24-7! Except that they forgot to add Rob "the playmaker" Jackson to the list of free agents.

You also have Hurt who can play both... but I think they will both be back. Kory had another good season and continues to be underrated, but with his injuries I just don't see him going anywhere else. He is also a much smaller Guard than most teams in the NFL would take a chance on. I think he'll be back. I also expect J. Brown to free up some money when it comes to the offensive line. That guy cost us a player who could've contributed with the money that was given to him... and I just don't see us going down that road again this season.

But what a fun problem to have, huh?

Skins2323: my biggest concern with RT actually comes down to the LT spot. I see three guys that could vie for the RT position, but I don't see a guy I'd be comfortable sliding to LT if Trent misses time. To me, getting a good prospect at RT (who has played ably at LT too) would shore up both positions.

Thats exactly the point I was making. If we sign Ryan Harris too, then we have a ton of options at RT but only Trent at LT. I would rather bring back Polumbus for cheap and find a swing Tackle who can play both spots. Black is still an option but I believe his suspension goes into next yr, so I want to find someone like that
