D-Hall isn't going anywhere.. expecially after he said "I'll do what it takes to be back next season".

I really don't see us letting Hall go at this point, especially since he played fairly well the second part of the season and is willing to do what it takes to stay in DC

Would really like to see us make a move for a safety rather than a corner if push comes to shove and we can't afford to get both...I think the right safety could make a HUGE difference in the pass defense, more so than a corner we pick up

Deangelo Hall is not a FA until 2015. Can we please stop talking about him? This is the free agency thread. I'm not his biggest fan by any means but with some actual Safety play, you'll see a drasctic difference in his play.

So now that the Eagles have signed Chip Kelly as HC, and his up tempo offense, do we need to change our mindset on who are better prospects for our secondary ?
Or does it not matter ??

This. We need a stud back in center field for us (RIP #21)...If the safety play doesn't change/improve somehow next season, our pass defense won't get much better regardless of who is CB on the outside

And to that I say no, you always take the best cover corners available regardless of what scheme, they should only have to make so many tackles, the LB's and DE's are the ones who will be affected by the new scheme in Philly the most

I cannot comprehend what some of you think about Hall. He sucks and he is overpaid. PFF doesn't just make things up, and he is consistently bad in coverage, he gave up over 1000 yards in coverage this year. That is awful and he is declining, and none of his money is guaranteed. He is the most obvious cut in the world right now

Again, Hall has said he will re-structure his contract to stay with the team.

Hall was the best CB on the team this year. He played very solid down the line, even with a nagging injury. Hell, he shut down Dez in both games (minus 1 play by Dez) and has been solid against #1 receivers.

    Why all of the hate?

Of course PFF wouldn't make things up...you know...because they can generate web hits on their own...because...you know...nobody on the web makes up things to drum up traffic and hits...because it's the intenet...nobody lies on the internet.

His contract and what he and the team do with it is a big part of what we can or can't do in free agency.

Its a FA thread, but his cap # will play a large part on how active we are in FA. He definitely won't be back at his current number.

For sure, but I wouldn't write him off just yet. He knows he won't bring that number on the open market, and he's on a team on the upswing.

I don't think Merling is an upgrade over Jenkins, no. But I do think he is insurance in case Carriker isn't 100% after his ACL injury. He would also provide camp competition with Golston/Worthington. He didn't do much his last couple of seasons in Miami, but he does have ideal size for a 3-4 DE. FYI, he tore his achilles in 2010.
Maybe it was because he didn't get much run throughout the season. But seemed like Worthington made the most of his time when he was in. As an insurance policy I like Merling. A vet w/ starter experience. Gholston was a solid back up in the 4-3. He just doesn't fit our 3-4 effectively. I think he'll be gone next season.

You're right. Let's just cut him and replace him with a shutdown corner for vet minimum. I mean, there are so many of them out there.

In an ideal world, Hall would be expendable. But he's not. He's still the best DB on our team, and plays with a lot of heart. He bleeds burgundy and gold.

Now, that doesn't mean I would be happy with him still being our best DB come September. We definitely need an upgrade at those positions, especially Safety. But there is literally no reason to get rid of him, especially since he seems willing to alter his contract to come back.

    Goodbye, Bubba. RIP.

Hate to break it to people who hate Hall but if we had the two best CB's in the league on this team last year they would have looked terrible. The key to a good D (especially a 3-4) is pass rush. This year we had none. Improve the pass rush and the CB will be better. It's really that simple.

We need a FS/SS for next season but CB would be low on my priority list.

I cant understand all the love for DHall? Is this the same guy who ppl scream about all yr, and because he steps up his game for 2-3 games at the end of the yr we are going to keep him around now? The same guy who gets burned routinely? The same guy who is good for atleast 1 REDICULOUS personal foul per yr (getting in refs face this yr, throwing refs flag last yr)? The same guy who even admitted last yr that he wasnt earning his paycheck?

Did he play better in the end of the yr? Yes..... but in fairness he couldnt have played worse. Yea he said he would restructure, but do you really expect him to take a paycut? I expect him to offer to convert his salary into a bonus (meaning he is still getting paid). He is routinely year after year rated the WORST CB in the league. If DHall was playing for free, then I would welcome him back....actually, I might require him to pay us for paying him a ton of cash and underperforming yr after yr.

Now, for those of you about to yell "You are going to cut our best CB for who?" First off, Wilson is better then Hall. Better ranked, and has been better ranked at every stop in his career. You can yell about ProBowls but we all know thats crap and also about carrer INTs since the good ones usually dont get thrown at. He was out of position this yr and last yr as he is best suited against the slot receiver, but I would still argue that he's better then Hall. Also, if we do cut Hall I hope there is a plan in place.

    My plan: would be to
    a) sign (1) of Talib or Smith. (I dont think we can afford both).
    b) Extend Wilson to lower his cap # this yr
    c) Draft the best available CB in the 2nd round, use our 3rd on a safety.

I would feel much more confident going into next yr with Talib/2nd Rounder/Wilson/Griffin/Crawford....but hey just my opinion.
