The same guy who is good for atleast 1 REDICULOUS personal foul per yr (getting in refs face this yr, throwing refs flag last yr)? The same guy who even admitted last yr that he wasnt earning his paycheck?

Did he play better in the end of the yr? Yes..... but in fairness he couldnt have played worse. Yea he said he would restructure, but do you really expect him to take a paycut? I expect him to offer to convert his salary into a bonus (meaning he is still getting paid). He is routinely year after year rated the WORST CB in the league. If DHall was playing for free, then I would welcome him back....actually, I might require him to pay us for paying him a ton of cash and underperforming yr after yr.

Now, for those of you about to yell "You are going to cut our best CB for who?" First off, Wilson is better then Hall. Better ranked, and has been better ranked at every stop in his career. He was out of position this yr and last yr and he is best suited against the slot receiver, but I would still argue that he's better then Hall. also, if we do cut Hall I hope there is a pla in place.

    My plan: would be to
    a) sign (1) of Talib or Smith. (I dont think we can afford both).
    b) Extend Wilson to lower his cap # this yr
    c) Draft the best available CB in the 2nd round, use our 3rd on a safety.

I would feel much more confident going into next yr with Talib/2nd Rounder/Wilson/Griffin/Crawford....but hey just my opinion.
Because basically there is no superior alternative we can afford.

So you'd re-up Griffin who was suspended the last four games of the regular season for PED use?

What if Talib wins a ring this year and wants to stay in New England? (EDIT: And the hot rumor is that Miami will be tagging Sean Smith, BTW.)

We draft at the end of the 2nd round (basically)... what if the CB we were targeting is long gone by then?

Are you confident rolling into the season with an aging Griffin (who played well at times... but was often out or suspended), a 2nd rounder, Josh Wilson, and Dick Crawford?

That doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy. Wilson and Griffin are boundry corners. Crawford was abused in the slot this season. You have to bring Hall back, love him or hate him. At least until you see how things pan out in the draft and FA. I have a feeling he likes it here and he smells a winner.

As others have mentioned, FA is a fickle beast. If every person who was slated to be a UFA escaped, we could have our pick of about 6 or 7 really good corners. Guys like Talib, Grimes, Smith, Houston, Cox, DRC, and Williams.

Problem is, I'll bet at least 3 of those guys get re-signed if not more, and the few that do escape are going to end up the subject of a bidding war we might not win. Sure, we'd have cash if we cut Hall, but we also have to be reasonable on the contract. If we decided to target Talib, and yet some team went out and gave him a top dollar contract, we'd lose.

The one problem with having a FO that pays FAs reasonable contracts is that the owners and GMs willing to overpay often win the tiebreakers.

So yeah, while I think a lot of us would like to replace Hall with a couple young really good corners, I just sadly don't see that happening unless everything goes our way, which we won't know until after we have to make a decision on Hall.

It is going to be funny when we start next year with Hall on the team. He will restructure as he said he would because he wants to be here. He was a best secondary player last season by far and was one of the best tacklers on our entire defense.

We need to devote FA resources to at least one Safety spot but I am fine going into next year with Hall, Wilson, Griffin, Crawford and maybe another draft pick in there.

An improved pass rush and safety play will make the Corners look a lot better and we should have both next year.

Hall stepped it up the last part of the season. I'm not a Hall fan in the least, but he stepped it up and he bought into the team.

And no cut is more obvious than Banks.

Obviously the secondary is our most glaring need but I'm intrigued by Shaun Phillips from SD if he became available. Sure, he's 32 but he's a great pass rush threat and he was always better than Merriman. He could also provide leadership to our younger guys. What do you guys think about him?

He seems to have a pension for turnovers as well, which is always good. He and Jackson out there at the same time would be EN-TER-TAIN-MENT (I had to go syllables on that).

Unfortunately... he wouldn't start with Rak and Kerrigan on the squad... and that means he'd have to contribute on teams. Do you think he'd be willing to do that?

I'm not a DHall fan, but I wouldn't mind bringing him back for cheap. The question is how much of a discount is he willing to give. We are gonna be so cap strapped that I doubt we can sign an impact cb.

Banks is an RFA. Doesn't need to be cut.

Hall will be kept... end of story.

    *Best secondary player

    So we are cutting Hall?

And we are gonna go with Griffin who is off of suspension...Crawford whos coming off of surgery and Talib who is a total head case?? And you think thats better than keeping Hall??? If we didn't give up the most yards passing last season i can almost guarantee you we will with that secondary..

I think we have sometime (season or 2) until Kelly gets the guys to run his offense. Until that time I think Kelly will go with a more traditional offense until he gets the horses necessary to run his scheme. I agree we should be looking ahead to combat his offense once it is ready to roll which would be at the earliest in season 3 of Kelly's regime.

On 2 WR sets Wilson would probably be one of the outside guys with our FA (assuming of course that he is an upgrade)
Hall was the slot guy. And Crawford was a slot guy earlier in the season before they saw that it was too much for a rookie to deal with. Boundry guys are better because they can use the boundry as a friend. If Wilson was such a good slot guy in Seattle and Baltimore, how did he make it to us? Don't get me wrong, I like Wilson, but I don't think I noticed him playing the slot much if at all this season.

MODS- I did that wrong...I tried to respond to each statement individually but obviously screwed something up? Can someone help me out??
I just copy and paste the statement, and then I highlight it and click on the word bubble on the top part of the response window. It's all the way to the right. There is probably an easier way, but that's how I do it.
