Another post down the drain...
Really I thought 300 was mediocre. Very mediocre.
As a history teacher, I use 300 in class. It really gets the students interested in Ancient Greece/The Spartans/The Persian Wars. You'd never believe how much this movie gets HS kids talking about history. It's priceless to me.

Update: The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision reports a Snyder spokesman told them these are horrible lies, like Santa Claus or that Han shot first: "Snyder's spokesperson says: 'While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars. He is currently in post on his two films, Man of Steel and 300: Battle of Artemisia." That means no Episode VII, VIII or IX, and no offshoot movies, the rep confirms." Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
Its a false rumor?
Thank the maker.

"It is our true policy to steer clear of entangling alliances with any portion of the foreign world. The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is, in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible." George Washington.
"Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none." Thomas Jefferson.
We get into all of that. The great thing about the movie is that they end up asking all the questions.
Also, they were not portrayed as all black in the movie. Most of the "Persians" were portrayed as milled eastern, the immortals were not black, they were portrayed as monsters which seems over the top, but Herodotus called them monsters in his writings. The soldiers that were fighting for the Persians were multicultural including Greeks. More Greeks fought with the Persians rather than against them.
Anyway, my tase in movies is not the same as a lot of people's I'm sure. I loved 300. One of my top 10 faves. It entertains me, gets my students interested and asking questions which makes teaching history easier since they are interested.

If my high school history class showed that movie I'd be pissed

I would feel deeply offended were I of Persian descent. I thought the movie was awful, but I'm old.
Funny how Greco-Roman culture is always portrayed as so superior to its oriental counterparts...except of course when it comes to acceptance of the Biblical narrative in which the Mycenean Greeks (Philistines) become synonymous with barbarism despite having a culture that is technologically and culturally far more advanced than the Israelites.
Code - You should look into getting DVDs of history by Terry Jones, former member of Monty Python. His stuff is funny, entertaining, and blows the lid off of commonly accepted myths of history. I just finished watching a 2 DVD set on the Crusades. His stuff on "Barbarians" is great too.

I just went from watching Mel Brooks clips to Monty Python interviews about Brian.
