What the hell is a "man card"???

I've seen it posted a million times here on ES. Somebody makes a comment about something, and everybody tells them to turn in their man card. I may never be able to fully understand this whole "man card thing" since I'm not a man, but can someone please explain what the offenses are that guys consider so objectionable that a guy has to turn their man card in?

1. If you wear skinny jeans
2. If you enjoy watching women's basketball.
