Default BR: JaMarcus Russell Reportedly Planning NFL Comeback

The influx of college coaches and success of dual-threat QBs apparently has caught the eye of former No. 1 draft pick and NFL bust JaMarcus Russell, who is reportedly attempting a comeback to the league.

According to Yahoo! Sports' Kristian Dyer, Russell has "the itch" to play football again. Now at around 308 pounds, Russell is "down from" the 320 pounds he weighed in the fall and is working on a conditioning program that will get him back into football shape.

It appears Russell is serious about a climb back to the NFL ranks. The 27-year-old is aligning himself with noted professionals that will help not only get his weight down, but also fix some of the issues he had as a pocket passer when he was with the Oakland Raiders.

How many comebacks is this guy gonna try?

And it's probably not a good idea to not announce your comeback when you're still 300 plus.

But I will say he's got an impressive list of guys trying to help him out, if you read the Yahoo article. Seems fairly organized.

He's 308 pounds.. cut 12 off and suddenly thinks he's ready to go?

He ran a 4.8+ at 254 when he was in peak physical condition. I was thinking that he might be able to try out as a TE if he got down to 270-280 but he'd be too slow even if he cut 30-40 pounds off his current weight.

QB.. out of the question IMO. He doesn't have it mentally it make it at that position in the NFL. And even if he did at one point he's been out of the game for too long. Sorry JaMarcus. Best for you to try to open a car dealership or something if you have any money left.

Michael Clayton is mentoring him? The same Clayton who flamed out of the league a few years after a great rookie season? lol

It would be a pretty cool story, and it seems like he's got the people who want to try and make him an NFL player again.

I say he talks to Subway about possibly being sponsored by them for his weightloss.

That would be my point as well. If he got himself together (which is a BIG if), there should be no reason that he wouldn't be one of the top 60-90 QBs in the league. I would think teams would just think it wasn't worth the hassle. Groom a young guy rather than try to salvage a backup role out of Russell. You probably wouldn't trust him with anything more than a 3rd string gig unless he knocked your socks off, which he's probably not gonna do.

you know, it's not about weight or ability with this guy and all about his attitude.

he didn't realize this is a job,a business. and livelyhoods are at stake.

he never got the urgency of what is the NFL.
