Now, for some guys, I think that's not an issue. But at QB, I don't know, it indicates an attitude of someone not ready for leadership (I know, I know, Joe Namath..but that was a different more conservative time in football.)
Yes, I will say I don't have much sympathy for a kid who got tens of millions of dollars guaranteed only to completely waste his talent. To put things in perspective, Russell made $39 mil for his 3 years of being an awful qb. Aaron Rodgers didn't make $39 mil until november of last year, 6 and a half years in the league, 3 and a half years of pro bowl production. Russell Wilson will make under $3 mil for his first 3 years, less than 1/10th of what Russell made. Basically what I'm saying is all that charity is nice, but if I made $39 mil in 3 years while being on par with most qb's who make 5% of that, I just committed highway robbery and giving some of it away is the LEAST I could do for all that guilt.

Yes, I realize he has had some personal tragedies and all, but that's a scapegoat. Manti Te'o had two deaths that propelled him to 2nd in the heisman (had to do it). I've had deaths that have affected me, heck, our very team had ST pass away, and yes it makes you sad for awhile but it doesn't completely shut down your life.

He's apparently at 308 pounds, so we'll see how determined he actually is.

Frankly, I find it incredible a QB ended up over 300 lbs. I mean who switches their eating habits and workout regimen enough to cause that in their early 20s? If he likes to eat enough to do that, how did he keep that kind of weight off to get himself to the NFL?

They must need someone to fill Bennet's role of oversized underperformer.

Actually that is actually when a lot of people gain weight. I read somewhere that 70% of college students gain an average of 12 lbs in college and as much much as 37 lbs. Russell was 265 lbs at the combine. I wouldn't be shocked if he had to get down to that weight. So, the problem may that he hasn't changed his eating habits.

yes, but my point was he gained that weight after college. And the people who gain the weight are generally students without access to the athletic department. And NFL trainers should be better than college trainers.

Of course a different team than the Raiders might have worked to instill some discipline more than Al Davis' team.
