NBC: Boy Scouts close to ending ban on gay members, leaders

Too bad the boy scouts continue to have this policy. The Girl Scouts are much more progressive since they accept lesbian scouts/leaders.

Well how else are they supposed to find rugged women that can handle the outdoors?

I'm kidding of course, and mocking the stereotype of the man-like lesbian, not actual lesbians such as yourself, whom I support.

What I think sucks the most is that while I disagree about the BSA's exclusion, they are a private group and I support the right to a group's selective membership. This is one of those times where it come back to bite you in the ass.

I wonder, and would like to hear your thoughts on the matter, if GSA is more progressive because homosexual women are more accepted in society than men, if that is even true, or what you think is the reason for GSA being more progressive.

I also agree that private groups should make their own rules about whom can be members, which is why I support women-only groups that exclude transwomen.

I do think that GSA is more progressive than the BSA because they welcome lesbians as scouts and leaders. They are also God-based but don't discriminate if someone doesn't believe in God either. I think the GSA is more progressive in that they embody the true spirit of scouting which is to provide girls and young women the opportunity to participate in activities that are generally deemed "masculine" and not "feminine" like camping, archery, gun skills, self-reliance, etc. They attempt to serve the largest numbers of girls no matter their religion, race, sexual orientation, socio-economic situation. I'm guessing that the BSA also does some of these things but they exclude children/leaders that are atheist and homosexual.

I think lesbians are "more accepted in society" than gays just because men think that two women sharing sexual activities is an open invitation for men to watch/join in when that is further from the real situation (lesbians do not include men in their sexual activities in any way, but bisexual women may).

That's what I suspected. That and I think women aren't typically viewed as being as threatening or capable of wrong as a man, which also paves the way for a greater tolerance for lesbians. Though anyone who has dated a woman knows they are capable of being threatening and capable of wrong, lol

Unlike Major Harris-Sometimes a single issue IS important enough to me where thats all that I can factor in. If someone ran for president who agreed with every single issue as you did, except he thought it was also ok to torture and massacre all red heads, I think most of us would agree that this 1 issue was enough to note vote for him.

what it is is realizing that there is way more to the decision to scout or not to scout than "they don't allow gays." i don't make decisions on single aspects, just as i don't vote on single issues. this is similar to my very conservative father telling me that you aren't a real christian if you vote for someone who is pro-choice. ridiculous.

there are a lot of great things that come out of scouting, and quite frankly, issues that are super important to you might not be as important to me, and vice versa. doesn't mean i condone bigotry.

When are you planning to move out of Virginia, which is a state that discriminates against gays by not allowing them to marry?

It's just another way that men demonstrate that they objectify women, in other words, what's in it for them when lesbians don't even include men in their intimate relationships. i was referring to the episode that includes the discussion about the attractiveness of the female body in comparison to the male body, and why women weren't as attracted to the idea of naked men as men are to naked women.
