Hm, its based on self-reported Facebook likes and locations of the people 'liking' things.
The good news is that there really is no issue of people trying to game the system. The bad news is that you can essentially put any place you want as your hometown. I imagine that people who are untrusting of putting personal information online might just put some place in Alaska as their current city. I know that WAY back in the ICQ days, I used to put the Christmas Islands as my location.

Northern Alaska is mostly oil workers. I'd be surprised if there weren't a decent amount of former Pittsburg/Ohio river valley folks in that industry (oil extraction would seem to have a skill set that would be easier than many industries to transition into from coal mining/steel plants--ie caution around dangerous machinery, differing schedules, etc).
i find this to be incorrect. i live in Virginia Beach and there's a ton of REDSKINS fans here.
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!
I agree that Skins fans outnumber Cowturd fans down here but it can't be by a lot; Dallas fans are everywhere, they are like lice. You can't fault the sample size but the unscientific-ness of it being based on FB likes is certainly skewing the results for VA. Really all that graph means is that more likes were detected for the Cowboys in those places, which is not the same thing as saying there are more of their fans there.
Ever since I moved down to southern VA, it has been a disgrace. I see more Pittsburgh fans than Cowboy fans...so I'm questioning the accuracy of this map. The redskin fans around here are typically 30+ old and the young fans are mostly Pittsburgh fans. Some of it has to do with the lack of Redskin success in the previous two decades.
Few years ago my local fox affiliate stopped airing redskins games. They air Atlanta/Dallas games instead.![]()
Sure, we are vastly nothing like Northern Virginia population wise, but Snyder needs to come down to this area and re-promote the redskins to young audience like what Marshall/Cooke use to do!
Let's go Hokies!
The Cowboy fan counties in southwestern Virginia are intriguing. I wonder how strong the correlation is between meth use and Cowboy fandom.
