So, there's another thread that's similar to this, but I thought that this was enough of a different take that I would start this thread. Mods, if you want to merge or close, I understand.
This thread is about stories, and the different stories through the year. This was a rollercoaster year. And every week seemed to bring with it a new soap opera.
So here goes: The year in stories.
Pre-Season:
Primary Story: Why is RGIII not getting as many reps as Luck, Tannehill, etc? Shanahan must be crazy.
Secondary Story: The status of the secondary. Especially with injuries and suspentions at the Safety position.
Week 1: Win - Sknis 40 @ Saints 32
Primary Story: RGIII. OMG. Did you just see what he did to the Saints? They were in the championship game? Complete and utter shock.
Secondary Story: A blocked Punt?! Fire Danny Smith Now!
Other Stories: Defense looked ok, Garcon's injury.
Week 2: Loss - Skins 28 @ Rams 31
Primary Story: Morgan loses his control, picks up a stupid personal foul that basically ended any hope of winning the game.
Secondary Story: The defense looked lost and couldn't stop anybody. Orakpo and Carriker are both hurt.
Other Stories: Another Blocked punt? FIRE DANNY SMITH NOW!!!! Garcon didn't play.
Week 3: Loss - Skins 31 vs Bengals 38
Primary Story: RGIII is taking a beating running the triple option! Stop running him!
Secondary Story: The Defense looks TERRIBLE! They allowed a TD on the first play because the Bengals KNEW the 'Skins would go zero coverage when they went to wildcat.
Week 4: Win - Skins 24 @ Tampa Bay 22
Primary Story: RGIII willed the team to victory. We're in every game if the rest of the team doesn't blow it.
Secondary Story: Billy Cundif goes 1 for 4, missing 3 FGs. More calls for firing Danny Smith.
Week 5: Loss - Skins 17 vs Atlanta 24
Primary Story: RGIII is concussed and knocked out of the game. Kyle, we told you to stop running him! (Even though the hit was on a scramble.)
Secondary Story: Another missed FG by Cundiff. He's cut. In comes "Cobra Kai"
Week 6: Win - Skins 38 vs Minnesota 26
Primary Story: RGIIIs run.
Secondary Story: The defense gave up 352 passing yards to Christian Ponder. Who's not that good. More cat calls against Jim Haslett.
Other Story: Cobra Kai sweeps the leg, hits 50 yard FG.
Week 7: Loss - Skins 23 @ NYG 27
Primary Story: How in the name of all that is holy do you allow a receiver to get behind you in that situation. Major calls for Jim Haslett's job.
Secondary Story: RGIII played extremely well, and the giants were impressed.
Week 8: Loss - Skins 12 @ Pitt 27
Primary Story: The Steelers are just generally better than the 'Skins right now. Lost to a better team.
Secondary Story: Defense really didn't play well. More calls to fire Haslet.
Week 9: Loss - Skins 13 vs Carolina 21
Primary Story: Shanahan's post game press conference was really more of a story than anything the team did on the field. There is lots of talk of Shanahan's job security going into year 4.
Secondary Story: The team didn't play well, especially the defense. Haslett is REALLY on the hot seat now, with people questioning whether he will get fired over the bye week.
Week 10: Bye
Primary Story: No coaches fired.
Week 11: Win - Skins 31 vs Eagles 6
Primary Story: The Eagles are VERY VERY bad.
Secondary Story: The defense played well against a rookie QB. Which hasn't happened recently.
Other story: Calls to fire all coaches quiet just a little bit with the big win.
Week 12: Win - Skins 38 @ Dallas 31
Primary Story: HUGE win. WOW! Look at the offense!
Secondary Story: Defense blows a HUGE lead in the second half. Questions about Haslett start again.
Other story: Record is now starting to close up a little bit, at 5-6, mathematically in the playoff hunt.
Week 13: Win - Skins 17 vs NYG 16
Primary Story: 3 wins in a row. The offense did what it needed to in the 4th quarter, the 'Skins ran for 207 yards, and the defense held up when it needed to
Secondary Story: Good, solid, NFC East win. 2 prime time wins in a row. Pulled record even to 6-6. Tony Kornhieser says they won't lose again. (They don't)
Other Story: Record is 6-6, 3 division games in a row, and Shanahan is off the hot seat for the time being. People are starting to credit him for turning the season around.
Week 14: Win - Skins 31 vs Baltimore 28
Primary Story: It's not torn! Hallelujia!
Secondary Story: Woah, Captain Kirk!
Other Stories: The defense played well most of the game, and RGIII's heroics on one leg were amazing. 4 in a row, and the playoffs look passible. Record is now 7-6. The calls to fire Shanahan, Haslett and Smith have died down mostly.
Week 15: Win - Skins 38 @ Cleveland 21
Primary Story: Skins score 38 points with a QB not named RGIII.
Secondary Story: RGIII not happy he wasn't playing.
Other story: 'Skins control their own destiny. With 2 more wins, they make the playoffs for sure. Kyle Shanahan gets a lot of kudos for getting Cousins, a second rookie, ready to play in the NFL. HC talk for Kyle in the off season start to emerge.
Week 16: Win - Skins 27 @ Philly 20
Primary Story: RGIII returns to the lineup, doesn't run, is "workmanlike" throwing the ball.
Secondary Story: With the win, going to 9-6, playing Dallas at home for all the marbles.
Other stories: Haslett is starting to get some credit for holding the defense together with duct tape. Some chatter about HC gigs for Haslett start popping up.
Week 17: Win - Skins 28 vs Dallas 18
Primary Story: First division win since 1999.
Secondary Story: RGIII still not right. Will be be ok for the playoff game?
Other Stories: 7 in a row.
Playoff - Wild Card
Primary Story: It's torn.
Secondary Story: The other one is torn too. Why did you leave him in? What did Dr. Andrews say? Shanahan lied to us.
Other Stories: Should Shanahan be fired for leaving RGIII in the game? All of the good will of the previous 7 weeks completely washed away.
Oh, by the way story: 'Skins lose. Which seemed almost irrelevant after RGIII blew out his knee.
