Default ESPN: Mom won't sign son's letter of intent to Arkansas

    http://espn.go.com/college-sports/re...sas-razorbacks

Earlier in the day, Collins' mother, Andrea McDonald, refused to sign the letter of intent papers. Sources said she preferred Collins stay closer to home and sign with the University of Miami.

McDonald arrived at the school at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday to sign the papers but abruptly left without signing, according to two sources familiar with the situation.

Collins' older brother, Johnny, told the Miami Herald the family hoped Collins would re-consider Miami.

"I would prefer him to go to Miami, too, because it would be a better program for him, a better environment," Johnny Collins said. "He could get home faster and it's more convenient if Mom wants to go to a game -- instead of having to fly to Arkansas."
It's not just that she wouldn't sign it though; she apparently took it from the High School and ran off with it.

Way to steal the spotlight on what is one of your son's most exciting days, mom. That's a good way to alienate him months before he goes off to college.

    Per SB Nation:

12:40 Update: Corey Long reported on ESPN that Collins' mom has upstaged his signing ceremony and is refusing to let him sign his letter of intent to Arkansas. In fact, she cannot even be found.

He is 18 I heard on the radio, he needs to just take care of it and leave her out of it. Sounds like mom got something extra and wants to be selfish

EDIT: Apparently in the eyes of the NCAA he isn't a real adult until he is 21

I don't know how "binding" letters of intent actually are. i'd say it's closer to a nice PR moment for the soon to be University rather than something that can't be undone. Forget Mom. If this dude is on a full ride he shouldn't need her OK to go where he wants.
“I just wanted to say to the fans … in D.C. and across the nation, they’ve been great for us, cheering us on. At away games they show up in the masses and at home they really made it feel like a home-field advantage. We said this when I was in college, ‘We got a chance to sit at the dinner table and experience success and it was a good meal. But now we want to go back to get dessert.’ We’ll be ready to get dessert next year.”

That's weird. Why couldn't a legal adult make his own decisions?

If you are under 21 the NCAA makes a parent sign it as well

Man, you wan to talk about bad parenting

Let's say he does go to Miami and it doesn't work out. Then he is going to blame her. I think if you are 18, you should be able to make your own decisions and suffer the consequences for it.

I think she most certainly has something in it...
