Once the number creeps up to about 30-40%, give me a call. And no, the opinion of white people doesn't really matter here (or anyone else who finds it necessary to be offended on behalf of some group that is not offended, and attempts to convince a group that it should be offended).

It's all old stuff, but for the love of all that is holy, if....IF the team name were to change, please DONT let it be WARRIORS!!! I would think in this day and age one could come up with something better. Better yet, stick with Redskins.

I think the Annenburg poll is criticized by detractors as relying too heavily on self-selection so it doesn't necessarily represent the population at large. But I fail to see why those who hate the name didn't have the same opportunity to respond as those who are not offended. Unless there was a conscious bias in the sample selection, I'd think offended people would be OVER represented in a self-selected study as opposed to non-Redskin fans who aren't offended but have little other incentive to respond. I have yet to see a reliable large scale study that shows NAs as being offended by the name.

Never once in my lifetime have I actually heard anyone use that term to refer to Native Americans. But I don't live in anywhere near a reservation or high NA concentration. Do people in those areas use "redskin" in the same way others might crudely use the n word?

If you are serious about your convictions then thats the price you pay. Otherwise, its just allot of hot air and you are not to be taken seriously.

I dont mean to set fan standards and you can do whatever you wish, but I respect people who walk the walk.

And our team's name was intended to honor Native warriors, not insult them. However, we know more today than we knew in the 1930s when most people were unaware of the genocide of the Native population.

I plan to walk the walk in 2013. I will no longer display the name and logo on my game day attire. I'll still wear the Burgundy and Gold, my jerseys, etc. just no more Native references. It's taken me 20 years to get to this point.

My man cave will have to wait a few more years before I remove the name and logo from the walls. This is not an easy transition for me.

If you believe the term "Redskins" is offensive, you can't wear the jersey... The name is on it.

Yes, surveys are often criticized for selection bias, sampling error, etc. But this represents the best information available on the subject. If there is a better survey out there, I haven't seen it. The number could be higher, or it could be lower. But its unlikely to creep into the range where (in my opinion) there's a big problem.

    Here is the methodology used:

    Survey Methodology
The National Annenberg Election Survey (NAES) is a survey conducted each presidential election by the
Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.
The 2004 National Annenberg Election Survey is based on telephone interviews which began October 7,
2003 and will continue past Election Day.
The sample of telephone exchanges called was randomly selected by a computer from a complete list of
thousands of active residential exchanges across the country. Within each exchange, random digits were
added to form a complete telephone number, thus permitting access to both listed and unlisted numbers.
Within each household, one adult was designated by a random procedure to be the respondent for the
survey. The interviewing is conducted by Schulman, Ronca, Bucuvalas, Inc.
This report deals with interviewing conducted from Oct. 7, 2003, through September 20, 2004. In that
period 65,047 adults were interviewed, of whom 768 identified themselves as Indians or Native Americans.
In theory, in 19 cases out of 20 the results for these interviews will differ by no more than two percentage
points, up or down, from what would have been obtained by interviewing all American adults. For smaller
subgroups, the margin of sampling error would be higher.
In addition to sampling error, the practical difficulties of conducting any survey of public opinion may
introduce other sources of error into the poll. Variations in the wording and order of questions, for example,
may lead to somewhat different results.

    Why?

    What point are you making?
the people offended aren't offended. what exactly is it you're trying to prove?
    You know better than them?
Do they need a guiding hand?

Save yourself the stress. Buy a purple hat. Ravens don't offend anyone.(pseudo or not)
    And hey,, instant championship!

I suspect it's possible that this issue is a losing cause no matter what side is argued.

Not one side is correct...but one might be less incorrect.

Wouldn't it just be easier to admit that you are Mike Wise? I mean seriously, you are 35 years old, are you really going to spend your time putting stickers on any of your gear that says redskins after everytime you wash it? Better yet, just give it to me. I'll go ahead and wear it the way it was made. If you want to be embarrassed you have no further to look than the mirror. I know all teams have their 'fans', but this guy has got to be a soccer fan or something. You don't really like the redskins, you like the players. If you liked the team, you wouldn't try and change what the team has been for the past 80 years. Either that or you just haven't thought any of this through, EVERYTHING would change if the name changes.

    ---------- Post added February-7th-2013 at 12:12 PM ----------

BTW there is a difference between Indians and Native Americans. Indians live in a country called India...which is why they are called Indians. I'd even argue that Indians is WAY more offensive than Redskins, but that isn't my call.
