No, I get that. It was really two separate thoughts. First of all, the Caps (who have playoff experience and play a sport in which it's much easier to make the playoffs) have so few votes. Secondly (and mostly independent of that point), I was just wondering out loud what this poll would have looked like a year ago.

Imagine the Caps make the playoffs as a 7 seed and go on a run to the ECF this year and the Nats play well but miss the post-season. I wonder what next February's poll would look like.
"Washington strolled to the NFC championship, outscoring their two playoff opponents by a combined total of 48 points. Their domination was more than impressive, it was historic. The 1991 Redskins boasted the largest average margin of victory among all Super Bowl champions."

Like I said earlier, I would put the Wizards over the Caps. But the other teams are way more talented than the Wizards are right now. Lebron and Rose will keep the Wizards from even making the finals.

How anyone could vote anything other than the Nats is baffling to me. They're stacked, young, hungry, healthy and have a HOF manager.

If RGIII hadn't had his knee destroyed in the last game and was coming into this season completely healthy I'd still not vote Skins. Considering the circumstances, I still think the Caps have as good or a better chance to win a cup before the Skins win the Superbowl.

My issue with picking any baseball team is simply the nature of MLB. Teams can be very good and have solid years and not even get into the post-season. It's unlikely, but the Nats (despite being the best of the area teams) could go 4 straight years without making the playoffs without really doing anything all that bad. An 85-win season could keep you out of the playoffs. Conversely, the Caps could make the playoffs relatively easily even during some down years and have a shot to get hot.

Good points, and I would tend to agree. But if we're talking about right now, at this poiint and time I feel the team with the best odds of winning a championship first is the Nats. The Caps second, Skins third, Wiz forth and I really don't care about the United so,....

Tough to dispute that...but I voted for the Skins! I'm a Skins homer, an O's fan, and not a huge hockey guy.

I'm a huge Skins fan too and in my heart would love the Skins to be first. I'm just trying to maintain my objectivity. I'm a much bigger hockey fan than baseball, so, the Caps getting on a roll, making the playoffs and going on a run to the cup would have me giddy.

Just to see how well ya'll follow baseball, here's a little trivia to magnify my point. Which ONE player in the Nats playoff lineup was not put on the disabled list for an extended period of time during the year? (HINT- It's not Harper because he was called up later into the season)
I want to say LaRoche. He missed a few games like a month into the season but it was only like four or five. I don't remember him being on DL. I don't recall Espinosa missing any time either though.

Danny barely misses games. My guess is him.

Basketball is a different animal. Basically, you're not going to win a championship when your franchise player and star is younger than 26. It's not a young man's game. Even if everything progresses for the Wizards in the best realistic way, Wall is still 4 or 5 years away from his prime. The Wizards are not capable of winning anything before then. It's not just them either. No team is capable of winning a championship before their best player the whole team is built around is essentially at the height of his powers. Not even LeBron could do it before his prime. LeBron!

4 or 5 years is an eternity in football. You can rebuild twice in that time frame.

Espinosa is the correct answer. LaRoche may not have gone on the dl, but he missed about a week due to injury (in may I believe)

This is how I'm ranking the odds
1.Washington Redskins-Strongest young core per any of our teams. Great coaching. Really think in the next 4 years we will have a SB win, especially the year or year after the penalty is lifted. I say a year after because I see some quality signings that offseason but I assume they would need a full season in Washington to for us to reap the benefits.
2.Washington Wizards- Surprise!!! The Wizards actually have a extremely solid young core who seem to like to play with eachother. The NBA is about to gain parody in the next few years. The Wizards will have Wall, Beal and im predicting either Muhammad or Noel in this years draft. If they are able to keep Seraphin, Booker, Webster who are all great role players I think they have a shot at being a Clippers like team.(ton of depth).
3.Washington Nationals-Baseball is hard to predict. Injuries and slumps seem to make it nearly impossible. I do believe the Nationals can win a World Series but I don't see it all adding up for them.
4.Washington Capitals-I think it will be a while before the nations capital gets a hockey title. I don't see them winning with Ovi.
5.DC United- Honestly I just want MLS to work on getting better talent for their teams. Idk what that would take soccer is not my main sport I'm not sure about the funding or salary caps however the MLS should work on strengthing their image by spending money to make the league more exciting. I think soccer could flourish in America, if you gave them players and rivalries to get excited about. However I think D.C United has the least amount of talent and light at the end of the tunnel.

I hear you Steve, but I have no faith in the Caps right now. Even when they were the best team, they stil managed to lose. Me wanting to put the Wizards over the Caps has more to do with the Caps and less then the Wizards.

You honestly think the Skins young core is stronger than the Nats? Really?

Let's examine this a little more closely:

    Skins "Young Core" imo:

    1.)RG3

    2.)Trent Williams

    3.)Alfred Morris

    4.)Pierce Garcon

    5.)Fred Davis (assuming he's re-signed.)

    6.)Brian Orakpo

    7.)Ryan Kerrigan

    8.)Darrel Young (Assuming he's re-signed)

    Nats "Young Core"

    1.)Stephen Strasburg

    2.)Bryce Harper

    3.)Ian Desmond

    4.)Gio Gonzalez

    5.)Jordan Zimmerman

    6.)Danny Espinosa

    7.)Drew Storen

    8.)Tyler Clippard

9)Ryan Zimmerman (Yes, I still consider him young).
