I have been looking for the source on that. I remember reading that one of the leaders said something to the effect of 'and they don't pay us for the name.' I remember reading it, but for the life of me, I cannot find the quote any longer. I didn't bring it up, because I have not found the source again.

To me, yes it is just a name and would love the team regardless as it is more than a name, it is a lifestyle. My issue here is having to not offend people. Guess what I find it offensive to me that we have to care about every single person's opinion and make sure no one gets butthurt ever.

Thanks Soup For The Sig! WE GOT HIM!!!!!

I for one would almost certainly drop football entirely, and I wouldn't be the only one (Note I did it with basketball and I wasn't nearly as fanatical about the Bullets as I am with the Redskins).

Really??? If you would drop football because of a name change then you aren't much of a fan.

I equate it to people in MD who dumped the Redskins for the Ravens because the Ravens are better.

    Fandom isn't about the name.

Personally I don't want the name to change, but if it does, so be it. It doesn't lessen my love for the NFL and football.

But hey, you can cheer on the Cardinals.

I will say, as long as the colors don't change. And I will say it again, please don't make me root for the Warriors!!!

The Bullets have changed their name and their colors (colors twice).

The Caps have changed their colors twice.

What will you do if Redskins change their colors, root for the Patriots? Ravens?

I mean really, I feel ya on the name and the colors, but life will go on and everyone will be on board.

I never followed basketball, but I was still a fan of the Caps when they changed.

I agree, life will go on, I will still root for the team. But please, for the love of god, NO WARRIORS!!!!! I would be embarrassed to tell people that I root for the Warriors.

Also, I am pretty positive the Snyder will not change the colors unless he has a death wish.

Like I said different viewpoint. I don't think you are much of a fan because you would accept a name change. As for the Cards don't think so. Like I said it would just be no more football for me. Bottomline people have different criteria on what they will accept (If they moved to a different city would you still be a fan? - I would). I'm not trying to take the team away from anyone but those who espouse a name change are.

    Threats to leave 'if'...

reminds me of Alec Baldwin and his myriad of Hollywood celebs who were supposed to move up to Canada if Bush was elected in 2000.

Actually it started the week before the Super Bowl when Mike Wise asked the Commish about the Redskins name.

The term "Yankee" was oringally a pejorative term used by the British to insult American Colonists (and subsequently the citizen of the United States).
Living in the south most of my life (TN, VA, SC, FL), when people ask me where I'm from and I say Maryland, the first thing they say is, "you're a yankee." Well, I have to say, it does bother me when they call me that, but not because of the term itself, because of their ignorance of geography.

Those ignorant folks should take a stroll through Boonsboro if they think MD is all Yankee territory.

IMO when the NY Hilltoppers became the Yankees in 1913, they were probably aiming for an 'America's nickname to the world' angle, more so than northern pride over the south. However, team ownership could have played both angles with the Yankee theme bc Civil War memories were still alive. Adult children and grandchildren of the vet generation had heard stories of the war from their elders, and they likely harbored strong feelings nearly a half century later. Newly arrived immigrants in NYC could easily identify with the Yankee theme.

I've spent much of my life in Southern States. If you are from above the Mason-Dixon line... you are a Yankee. It's that easy.

Which is probably why PJF gets miffed when he's called a Yankee for being from Maryland, which is below the line.
