Default ESPN: Anquan Boldin traded to 49ers

Not sure anyone would agree this was a smart move. Boldin was just as big a reason for the Ravens winning the big one as Flacco and an even bigger reason Flacco got his contract in the first place.

"Three years ago, Newsome netted Boldin and a fifth-round pick from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a third- and fourth-round pick. Playoff hero or no, Newsome did well to collect a draft pick for a player about to enter the decline phase of his career. Boldin wasn't going to see his $6 million salary, in which case the Ravens would have simply released him on Tuesday."

Not sure how a 6th round pick equates to "did well"...

Hate to see this, Kaepernick didn't need a WR that he can just hang the ball up to when he gets in trouble scrambling around knowing Boldin is gonna go up and get it. Saw it on ESPN.

Well, Kaepernick has Boldin, Wilson has an entire team in place and RG3 has another $18mil cap hit keeping them from adding pieces around him.

Better to get something for him, rather than nothing. They'll have a ton of draft picks, maybe they try and trade up for Austin.

Also, one of the best blocking WR in the game now plays for one of the best running teams in the NFL.

If you were the Ravens would you sign Cruz from the Giants(he's a RFA for those who don't follow)? I definitely would, getting a player like Cruz for the 32nd pick in the draft seems like a pretty good deal.

It would but i doubt the ravens would be in position to give him a sizable contract larger than what they were paying Boldin, especially after signing Flacco to his $120+mil deal

How the hell do these other teams get great players for practically nothing, but when the Skins try to trade for a good player, it usually requires a high draft pick? Are we the league suckers?

He's still getting 6 million this year. People tend to forget that. That's why the Ravens parted ways. They couldn't afford that. So it's not "just" for a 6th round pick.

We used to be - but not anymore.

As for this trade potential bargain for a year or two rental but Boldin cant run anymore - he was never a real downfield threat anyway - but he uses his size and route running ability to create room to fit throws in and catches everything thrown his way. I think this makes the 49ers better in the very short term and suggests they are loading up for another run at the Super Bowl which is fair enough. However signing a guy like Boldin means he takes away an opportunity to develop a young receiver who can be there over the long term with your young QB - I'm glad this is not the kind of move we are making anymore whether that by design or by necessity given our cap situation.

San Francisco is freakin' loaded. As is Seattle.

Best part is, though, that there is only one football. Seattle and SF have a ton of weapons that they'll need to spread the ball out to.

Having said that... this was an outstanding move from San Fran. They can put less miles on Gore, utilize their other backs and get Crabtree, Manningham and Boldin the ball in the zone read scheme. They are going to be dangerous.

That was my first thought also.

I don't get all the Cruz hype this offseason. Sure, he's a great WR, but if someone offered the Giants Greg Jennings or Mike Wallace (UFA's this year) + a first round pick for Victor Cruz, I think they would take that deal in a heartbeat. Why give up a first rounder for Cruz, when you can get Wallace or Jennings without one?

    Giants.
