Thread: Tera Online - Anyone Playing?

Default Tera Online - Anyone Playing?

Just curious if anyone is playing Tera Online? And if so, what server? It's gone free to play now, didn't know if any gamers on here had given it a shot, or have since decided to come aboard. I've got a level 60 lancer and 60 Sorc on Mount Tyranus PvP server.

Ok I'm a former Wowhead, played it for years as such any MMRPG I play will be compared to that, so how does his compare?
Give me a basic rundown on the game and gameplay. Is it a WoW clone?

Its got elements from WoW, but I wouldn't say its an clone. There are no factions, so its not like Horde Vs Humans, but it has Battlegrounds (Arenas), PvP is open world, like WoW used to be, along with the BGs. PvP is gear based, exactly like WoW. One thing that is really different, its a target based/first person shooter based MMORPG, so its different in battle. Can you be killed leveling your new char? Absolutely, once you hit level 11, you are free game outside of towns. But to be honest, that happens minimal amount of time. There are channels (I look at it like parallel universes) you can switch between based on the amount of players in your zone. You would do this in order to grind/quest on the monster spawns. So it helps you level. There are guilds in the game, so you can GvG or guild battle other guilds. Overall, very fun, balanced game as far as PvE/PvP goes.

I've been playing Neverwinter Nights, another F2P game. No factions or PvP outside of arena's, but it's entertaining enough. I'll give this one a shot.

Can you give a good rundown of the classes if you have experience with them all?

I used to play back when it was 15 a month. Had a great time but I've learned to put MMOs down or my back catalog of games I want to play grows exponentially. The combat in Tera is a step in the right direction for MMOs. Got to lvl 55.

Yeah, once you get used to the FPS combat combined with mmorpg play, its actually fun. What server did you start on and whats your chars name?

Sure. I'm playing on Mount Tyranas, PvP server, its the best PvP server out there. As far as characters, you have your tanks, dps, healer classes.

    Tanks
Lancer (true tank) - lower DPS, used to be the only class that could tank/hold agro the best. Excellent class as far as being hard to take down in PvE or PvP, fully geared, considered the most overpowered class in the game for PvP. I have a level 60 lancer with crap PvP gear and can still be uber effective in battlegrounds (similar to arenas in WoW).

Warrior - (secondary tank/DPS) - warriors that queue dungeon instances as a tank, get a skill for the instance to tank. Higher DPS than the Lancer, high survival rate, slightly lower than a tank. Probably the second most overpowered class in the game from what Im told.

    DPS Classes
Beserker - high DPS and crowd control. Hits hard, relies on knock-downs and can deal out heavy damgage. Very slow movement speed. Not sure how the do in PvP, I haven't played one.

Slayer - high DPS and relies more on combos. Medium armor and no self heal skills though, so solo it can be a pain sometimes, but can hold their own in PvP against most classes, especially fully geared. I have one sitting at level 40 Im getting ready to finish to 60 soon. I love this class. They did get a PvP nerf a while back, so they aren't as awesome as they used to be, but if you know the game and have the gear, very good class. Especially in a group.

Archer - Ranged DPS and they just got some buffs. Easiest class to play solo and group in the game. Low hit-points, but they deal out a **** ton of damage really fast. I currently have a level 30 archer I started. Mainly because I got sick of archers in PvP against my sorc and lancer. Two archers together are pretty though. Fun class to play too.

Sorcerer - Best DPS damage in the game with all their AoEs and single target damage, hits hard as ****. Ranged DPS as well, very squishy though, lowest defense in the game, so they die fast if you're not careful. I currently have a level 60 sorc that I play as my main even though my Lancer was my first level 60. I love this char.

    Support Classes

Mystic - They are a hybrid healing class so they can buff, heal, res, use pets, etc. But they have the lowest DPS in the game and not the best heals in the game. Very low HPs too. Hardest class to solo in the game. I think the hardest to play in the game. I have one at level 37, I solo leveled him to that and it was so ****ing slow due to the lack of DPS, it would take forever to kill mobs to quest/grind.

Priest - True healer/main healer in game with buffs, res, etc. Easiest class to solo with in the game cause there is no downtime. In groups, during dungeon instances, can be tough as the boss goes after the healer, so if you have a ****ty group that cant hold agro, healer dies, then group will die. I started a Priest, got it to level 16, then switched to my Sorc as the guild I was in at the time needed more DPS.

I played as a warrior and before that buff the class sucked end game because unless you were in a guild it was near impossible to get a group. Cool thing is if you are skilled at combat you can solo. But like Taze said they got buffed. I'd Rec Tera to any wow head the graphic style is similar (high fantasy) but better and more current. I really enjoyed Tera but will never play it again someone can "have my stuff" if they want it for crafting.

This is great, thanks for the writeup. I will be messing around with an Archer and Sorc to start, as I lately have been wanting to play ranged DPS instead of melee or support. THanks man!

NP bro. You wont be disappointed with either class. Like I said, both can be squishy, but are a blast to play with.

    Celestial Hills - RP

Which was a mistake, but in time I'll go to another server.

    Currently I have a 31 Berserker and a 16 Sorcerer

Sorcerer starts out slow, but I can tell they are gonna get spanky soon.

They do, and they get easier to level the higher you go. It all sucks from 58-60 though lol. You can kite a lot of mobs at once, then nuke them and run circles around them while your AoEs eat them up. If you finish your Zerker up, hit 60, you should have 5-6K gold if you leveled doing the quests/story quests. You can transfer 2K to your sorc, then what you around level 20 is buy the best weapon available (nothing crazy) that you can enchant. Buy the cheapest weapon fodder, enchant the disc to +6 and it will allow you to power through mobs.

Repeat this every 5-6 levels and you will be in the 50's in no time. Especially if you can land a 100% XP boost pot or if you have an elite account where you get that boost for 1 hour per day free. Even without the boost, you can fly grinding mobs and there is a guide on where to go at what level, if I had put in more effort I could have hit 60 in two weeks easy with minimal work.
