    Default Stupid Orioles

Denny Bautista struck out nine in seven scoreless innings on Tuesday, giving him a microscopic 1.89 ERA in three starts since joining Double-A Wichita (Kansas City). Bautista is expected to join the Royals in the bullpen before the end of the season.

And, while the 23 year-old Bautista is mowing down the competition in Kansas City, Jason Grimsley has had an ERA of 9.00 in five appearances as an Oriole, not including tonight's disasterous performance against the Devil Rays, in which he managed to allow 6 runs while retiring just one batter.

Also, Grimsley is back on the trading block.

When will the Orioles ever learn?

If you were an employer whose worker lied, didn't show up, and when he did, he stunk, wouldn't you get rid of him?

I would probably demote him, fine him, and give him one more chance. Then I would fire the person if they didn't improve.

That trade had to be Angelos, not the 2 Gm's. Angelos is afraid of baseball in DC, so he got mad when we started going down the tube. He most likely forced the 2 Gm's to make a move for bullpen help so we can win some more games this year and prove to the league that baseball in Baltimore is getting better and we can draw plenty of fans that baseball in DC would not be needed. However, in doing so, we lost a piece that was young, 23, talented, 72 k's in 62 ip for Bowie, and cheap. Angelos should just resign and let someone else buy this team, he is a horrible owner.

Angelos has presided over the devastation of the Orioles since Pat Gillick left.

This team went from 90 plus wins to one of the worst teams in the AL, and it has sat there for 6 years.

The plan was to acquire bats this year and go after pitching next offseason, and that is a plan that can still work.

But it is dependent on knowing WHICH players to acquire.

The O's seem snake-bitten in that regard.

Well, Tejada was an easy pick and has worked out well, Javy lopez can't hit the ball in clutch situations and Raffy is showing his age.

It's just too bad that it couldn't have been Tejada, Pudge and Vlad. Pudge balked and balked over the number of years (and even lied in interviews in order to scare lopez away) and Vlad wasn't going to come to the Orioles no matter what. He would have been great hitting to the porch in right in Black and Orange.

Next season (and the upcoming offseason) is going to show what this organization is about and what direction it's headed in. If the Orioles can sign a couple of good starting pitchers in the free agent market they should have no problem winning 80 games next year. If they don't then changes need to be made.

Wait wait wait BigSwish3. 80 wins was this years goal, now wasn't it? Plus, that whole clutch hitting crap, its not a very useful statistic. Clutch hitting is based mostly on luck.

"....Major league baseball players did not perform particulary well--or particularlu badly--in critical situations. ....No one who behaved differently under pressure would ever make it to the big leagues...yet it was true, or impossible to disprove."
    --Moneyball

That refers to Dick Cramer hypothesis that clutch hitting in baseball didn't exist. The only thing that affected a hitter batting "in the clutch" was that some left-handed hitters fared worse against lefties then righties, and vice versa for right-handed hitters. That hypothesis, now theory, has not been disproved to this day.

Back to the FA-to-be Pitchers that will be in an O's uniform. I have a bad feeling we will not get any front-line starting pitching. 2 reasons y:Upper Management's lack of brains, No available pitching talent. Who is a free agent next year?

Wood, Milton, Garcia, and Vasquez have already resigned with their collective teams. The biggest name of the bunch is Pedro, but he is likely to demand more then 10 million a year and prob wouldnt be worth it as he is getting older and more fragile every year. Schilling would be real pricey as well, and hes even older, plus he probably would want his last contract to be signed with a contending team. Like I said, not many marquee talents out their next year, but if the O's pull out 1 or 2 #3 or 4 starters then they will have a significant upgrade at pitching. That is if they are not the Omar Daals and Rick Hellings of the world.
