Unwritten Rules of Sport

Funny Article on ESPN.com about the unwritten rules in sports.

Do you guys have any more you can think of?
I have a couple.
In a hockey brawl the goalie at the other end of the ice must skate as fast as he can to get involved in the fight.

In Skiing always be sure to have the name of your ski brand visible during any interview.

Every relief pitcher in baseball must eat an excessive amount of sunflower seeds while waiting in the bullpen.

http://espn.go.com/page2/s/caple/020409.html

"And the problem with unwritten rules is that accidentally violating them is as easy as a Russian hockey player violating Anna Kournikova."

Nice line.

On a wall in the official's, who called Redskins games this past season, hotel room.

" Should Stephen Davis run for 8 yards or more on any given play, immediately throw a flag for holding".

[ April 09, 2002, 10:53 PM: Message edited by: Park City Skins ]

When a player goes down in Football, the crowd must remain respectfully quiet and applaud when he gets helped off the field.

When a player goes down in Hockey, the crowd must cheer wildly and boo when he gets helped off the ice.

When a player goes down in Basketball, noone really notices or cares until a timeout is called.

Got a good addition to that last one.

When a player goes down in Rubgy, you keep playing ignoring the injured player until play stops. When play stops he had better have at least 3 broken bones or hes going back in the game.

How about when a professional wrestler gets killed during a wrestling match, cart his body out of the stadium, and just go on with the next match, with no delay. I hate to be so gruesome, but I'm only telling the truth.

[ April 10, 2002, 12:31 AM: Message edited by: Mick ]

In soccer there is an unwritten rule that in the event of an injury, the guy with the ball kicks it out of bounds. The other team then throws the ball in back to the team that had the ball allowing the player to gain control of the ball again before play resumes.

ESPN is right though, blood feuds start over these things. I remember a player getting hurt on an opponents team. My team kicked the ball out of bounds. Their team threw the ball down the sidelines after the injured player was carted off the field. Instead of giving us the ball, their forward took off with it towards our goal. I've never enjoyed tackling a guy as much as I did clocking that guy. Of course after the foul call, their team did just kick the ball to us for our control.
I believe my job as a parent is to give my kids all the blocks they need to build a life in which they can attempt to reach everything they strive for and see anything they can imagine. In a world where everybody finds it easier to destroy than build, I wish for my kids to experience the joy of seeing something for the first time and the love of creating something new.

I think this article was about normal sports and sports fans, which excludes Philadelphia.

Yes, but according to Eagle fans, Henry, those guys dressed in green & silver who lustilly booed Mr. McNabb's selection at the Draft were recruited by some loud-mouthed Philly radio personality to spectacularly bemoan the choosing of any player other than Ricky Williams by the Eagles in the first round. However, what these very same Eagle fans fail to acknowledge is the very real possibility that the opinion of this loud-mouthed DJ on this matter was in line with the view of many Eagle fans at the time.

[ April 11, 2002, 10:28 PM: Message edited by: Glenn X ]
