Microsoft exploiting their own security flaw???

Strange thing happened at work today.

I run IE 5.0 on my hooptie desktop at work, and received a link to an article at MSNBC.com from a coworker via email. After I checked the site, I noticed that my start page had been changed WITHOUT A PROMPT WINDOW to msn.com. I changed the start page back to my regular page and clicked the link on the email again...lo and behold the same thing happens.

I understand that Microsoft identified this as a security flaw in IE 5.0 and patched it in security updates for download. Seems kind of funny they would use the hole as an opportunity to forcibly plug their own internet wares.
