Thread: Threads by Genre

  1. #1

    Default Threads by Genre

How about creating a new field in the threads database like 'ThreadGenre' and keeping track of the genre of each thread. The person posting the thread could select a genre that best suits the topic. Then when browsing threads the viewer could select a genre and filter the thread list based on genre. Another table will have to be made in the database for genre and of course the proper HTML, server side coding, and SQL will need to be developed.

I think it will allow people to focus only on certain types of threads if they wish. For example....Today I feel like only talking politics or redskins or entertainment or whatever genre exists in the db.

Just a thought...I think it would be cool enhancement for some members.

You volunteering to write the code, bro? If so, let's talk.

If not ... maybe we'll just chalk this one up to a good idea that's probably not all that realistic at the moment.

Just a thought....with all the video gamers here...perhaps a video game forum should be created...that way the games are easier to track and members that want to know about specific game can track threads down easier....

Om - I know, I kinda just threw that out there. I realize it takes a lot of work. I program so I am sure everything but the PHP is something I could handle. When I first visited this site I was very enthusiastic about helping. At one point I thought I may actually pitch in (with the owners blessings of course). At the time I felt that my schedule was so tight I didn't not want to commit to anything I could not handle. Right now I am having second thoughts. So I ask:

Do you guys need any help coding? If so I would love to help. If this offer sounds interesting PM me. Thanks.

The offer is generous. unfortunately, the entire site is coded is PHP. From VBulletin, the VBPortal, to all the contests we run.

If you are familiar with PHP... we'd certainly take you up on your offer. Otherwise, I'm not not sure how could utilize your skillset.
