Someone explain to me why this game is so beloved??

I got it yesterday, bear in mind, I never played the original, because it just didn't look all that great to me.

I played the campaign part last night and online today.
It sucks. Rainbow six blows halo 2 away.
This game is nothing more than Doom or Wolfenstein with better graphics...

What am I not getting? I was all pumped for this game, but I'm ready to return it.
    Another post down the drain...

I dunno, what don't you like about it? It's also just like Halo 1...cept the marines are smarter and better shots. Some things have been changed, like ammo and grenades...but it's still good ole' Halo. Rainbow 6 is a much different game than Halo; sniper combat vs. sci-fi body suit combat. I prefer staying engaged with an enemy over 5 seconds for some reason. Not saying it's a better game, just prefer Halo 2 over RB6. And I think it's safe to say that Doom and Wolfenstein do not have the intense qualities of Halo 2. It took a second to grow on me, because they changed it up somewhat...but it's sick nonetheless. Sorry it's dissapointed you, there are alot of people on the Halo 2 forums that dislike it also...they can't handle a change. They thought it was going to be Halo 1 on Earth. They thought wrong.

OK, it's just me then, the main thing I didn't like about it was engaging an enemy for over 5 seconds. In Rainbow 6, if you are a good shot, you kill people, this game is just not for me.

I like the StarWars battlefront game more as well because it has more options (styles of characters), but I got bored with that one after 2 weeks.

Halo 2 is going back tomorrow, It's just not for me.

Well all I can say is that after (practicing) the game through Normal...Heroic is starting to become extremely addictive. I set my joystick sensetivity to 7(very high) which makes the gaming even more intense. The urban battles in the beginning of the game are sick, plain and simple. I can't imagine any person that isn't a FPS fanatic can't like that sh*t. Jackal snipers with those cool-azz lazer sniper rifles on the rooftops, platoons of Covenant coming through the ally-ways - the combat is crazy on Heroic. Legendary will be even crazier, but I'm hearing insane things about the clans on Xbox Live. Tournaments, very organized teamwork, nerds with a purpose!

The new grenades and the low amount of ammo you can carry has kinda grown on me the past 2 days. The grenades are more on the concussive side, but you can see how it would hurt like hell to be hit by something like that. Like being next to one of those small booming fireworks when it explodes.

The smaller ammo supply in Halo 2 makes you have to be more picky with your targets. You can't just sit on the trigger of the SMG, because you won't be able to use that SMG later in the mission. Pretty cool, I can understand why some people hate it. They were expecting Halo 1, and got...well, they got Halo 2.

I find the later levels in Halo 1 to be a little boring, fighting the Flood got repetative. In Halo 2, the later levels with no ballistic weapons is kind of frustrating...they should have more human weapon sequences then covenant weapon sequences, but it's about even.

Another thing, the game ended pretty abruptly. But there will no doubt be a Halo 3. Cheers.

HAHA. Halo is so serious that I bought some Gatorade to keep my energy up on Heroic. Nothing on Halo 1 beats the urban warfare, I'm sorry. Halo 1 was a masterpiece, so is Halo 2. How 'bout the music too? It's very erie and murdersome, darker than Halo 1's soundtrack, but just as well written...this game is sick.

Anybody played multiplayer? Even if you're not real in to it, can you tell the serious matches are crazy?

From my experiences, the thing I didn't like about the online play is that it takes a long time in between games. It also takes a long time finding and loging on to a game.

I was waiting on the Vietnam shooter, Men of Valor, but the reviews indicate that it is good, but not really exceptional. That's too bad. I'd really a love an all-encompassing Vietnam game, I'm just kind of had it with WW II. There were other wars. Hell, a Korean one or a War on Terror(with special ops in the far-flung reaches of the world) would be shweet.

Really? Other than the guns and ammo, how is it all that much different? Maybe I'm just not that far into it yet, but so far, all the little changes don't hurt it at all. I like the upgrades with the guns, pistol especially, but the lower ammo supply gets a little annoying when you're in a big battle. But as someone said, you just have to be a little more tactical. The marines are much better, and I like how they will drive the warthog now. And the warthogs with the rocket launchers are sweet. I also like how the tank shoots the rockets quicker, and the rockets are actually proportional to the barrel now, so you have to be more accurate. The only upgrade so far that I'm not too high on, other than less ammo, is the ghost. I don't like how you have to use the hyperspeed to go more than 2 mph, and can't use your guns or can barely turn while using it.

If you are looking for a good vietnam shooter... here ya go:

    http://www.conflict.com/conflictVietnam/default.htm

My wife just got it for me, and it is pretty good.. I love the conflict series because you can control 4 different people individually, unlike socom where you control one of the guys in a "pair" situation.

There are situations where I go put my sniper up high... my gunner along the ground, and I cover the back of my demolitions expert..

The more games you play, the higher your level goes.
The higher your level, the less time it takes between games.

    Good games yesterday afkidd!

    ...I still can't believe we lost the 3 on 3 on 3...
    we were dominating all game

rented Valor (but haven't played it that much), from what I have played it seems pretty good to me.
And I know what you mean, I really hope they make a great, not just good, other-than-WW2 war game.
