Question Grade Gibbs On His Personnel Decisions

Brunell, Mc Cants, Barrow, etc. I'm worried He may not be
a true personnel guy. Some big money spent with Cap ramifications.

The FO was excellent in acquistions last year (see thread below)

On defense, Greg Williams gets a "A" for the players he brought in and got to excel. You can't blame unforseeable injuries to Barrow and Phillips on him.

On offense, Gibbs though didn't do that well its true. Brunell was a disaster. Portis had some problems, but I think we get even better in the future. Cory Raymer didn't do well although he didn't cost too much. Walter Rasby had to be cut, although again he didn't cost too much. Thrash, Cooley, and Ray Brown were good acquisitions. I give Gibbs a "D" because the QB position is so important, and Brunell cost us $8.6 million in SB and a 3rd round pick.

I think the rust issue may apply with Gibbs choices in player aquisitions too. Afterall, he had not been intimately following the game for a number of years and his knowledge of players was probably up to par. Look at some of the choices- Brunnell has a pedigree. Sellers- former Skin, Raymer- former Skin, Thrash- former Skin. These choices are indicative of get who you know, not here are the gems. I think a year after being in it and studying tapes of everyone... He will have a better feel of who's the man and who's not.

Brunell should have been signed to a one or two year contract for about 2-3M a season and thats it. Whoever is responsible for paying him as if he just went to the pro bowl year after year is stupid. I dont think a single person on this board agreed with that signing at the time. Why cant the team see what is so obvious to all of us? Brunell should have played pretty good but there is no way he has played well enough over the past 3-4 years to think he is worth 40M over 7 years.

I'd say that overall the pickups were good on defense and horrible on offense. Maybe the defensive guys arent really that great though and its just Williams. The defense seemed to still be good even when Griffin/Daniels/Lavar/Barrow etc were out.
The offense would have been just as good if we had waited a few months and picked up Collins/Warner or hell even Testeverde would have played better. We could have traded Chump for a couple draft picks and still gotten Dillon. I'm pretty sure the offense would have been as good this season with just about any other teams backups starting here actually.

B, and that's only because of boonell. Barrow isn't Gibbs fault because he got injured. McCants just isn't giving Gibbs what he needs. Not exactly made about it, you put your best players out there. If Gibbs felt we could do better without DMac activated, I believe him.

Picking those three names tells me something about you.

It tells me you simply don't want to discuss the issue. You want to make stupid statements and run away. Don't do something like this again. If you want to discuss personnel moves that's fine. Then mention the moves we made this offseason. Talk about Salave'a, Griffin, Springs, Clark, Taylor, Cooley, Portis, etc.

Then, weigh the good with the bad and figure out which side of the ledger we wind up on. Don't simply speak about a couple of moves that may not have worked out and pretend it's the whole story.

If I were to grade Gibbs overall for all the FA pick ups this past off-season I would give him a B...The defensive pickups were outstanding, but the offensive pick-ups werent nearly as effective...The only mistake Gibbs made was giving Brunell so much money, picking him up wasnt a bad move just giving him so much $....

I give him an A-, yeah and a pass for his first year back. Im a loyalist, plus I really dont have any idea what it is like to coach in the NFL. Where is snyder at by the way. I havent seen him all year? or heard from him.

Gibbs grades out at a B.

Based on performance the only true mistake, even though it was huge, was Brunell.

I think Gibbs deserves a B- at worst. Brunell and Kenyatta were busts, but Gibbs gets an A++++++++++ for bringing in Gregg Williams as a coach.
I lost the Clinton Portis sig bet for the 2010 season...
