    Default Moseley- MVP 1982

I live in Texas, and listen regularly to the Local Sports Station 1310 The Ticket. They were talking about past MVP winners and got on the subject of how a kicker could possibly win the league MVP award. It was great listening to a Cowboy loving station talk about the Redskins for 15 minutes.

when you're clutch....you're clutch. And for that season, there was nobody who was more clutch.

He was the last straight-on kicker (non-soccer style)

I always expected him to beat the 63 yard record. I've heard he hit from 70 yards out during practice. I wonder if he'll ever be considered for the HOF...

As an aside, there was some controversy in TX about executing a guy who was borderline mentally retarded. His murder victim, tragically, had been Moseley's sister.

Rain? I thought it was flat out pouring down. Which made it all the more amazing... To win the game, and to set the record in pouring down rain.

Iwas about 13-14 yrs old, I remember watching it at my aunt's house with her (now ex) husband who was an avid Gints fan as well as an ass. That was one sweet moment in life. Funny how you can remember some things so clearly

It was the hair that put him over the top.

Actually that might have been the pre-perm days.

Gibbs kickers were always my favorite players growing up (Be honest they still are, but Riggins has moved up as I have aged).

Moseley was signing autographs at the Tailgate Club last year and I was glad I got the chance to tell him that I thought he should be in the Hall of Fame. It's a shame that players at certain positions will not be considered even when they dominated their position.

If the HOF voters don't think those positions are valuable, they should explain to us how the game would be played without kick returners, punters, and--especially--kickers. Some of the same stuff happens in baseball where only about a half dozen catchers have been voted into the Hall in the traditional way.

Some stats from Wahington Post (the 161 in a season is still a record, I believe):

If anyone is interested in reading about the game in which he set the field goal record, I’ve linked it below. (FWIW, it was snowing during the game, not raining.)

What I’ll always remember about the kick is that after the ball cleared the goal post, Theismann leapt into Moseley’s arms as if he, not Moseley, had set the record. It was classic Joe.

You stole my thunder. That was the strike year. MM won 4 games for us. Once on a 48 yarder (If memory serves me well) to send it into overtime and then a kick in OT to win it. That was an awesome streak he put together. Last of the "Toe Punchers"
