Personally, I voted yes, simply because I do like and root for the caps -- however, the general sense i get is that a lot of people are just turned off by how this affair has unfolded

looks like the fact that no one is even viewing this poll (zero views so far) speaks volumes

In the past 10 years I have realy become a big NHL fan. It actually passed up baseball as my second favorite sport (football being #1 ).

I make regular trips to Vancouver to watch the Canucks and have still followed the home town Caps. I will miss it and wonder if I will come back when the NHL returns though.

the Caps strategy was based on no NHL season in 2005.

personally, I am indifferent about the cancellation. I would like to see hockey, but the Caps had the firesale at the end of last season and would probably field the worst team in the NHL during a short-strike 28 game season as was contemplated.

The Caps younger players are better off honing their skills and working together at the minor league level and getting ready for a season in 2006.

The cancellation of the season hurts teams like Detroit and the Rangers the most because they soaked up all the free agents and high priced trade bait that smaller market teams like the Caps jettisoned in 2004.

Right on. It was obvious Leonsis and McPhee were bracing for this and loaded up on some serious young talent.

The team's farm system is ranked number 1 by numerous hockey publications.

Hopefully a CBA is crafted before the draft. And hopefully the Caps end up with the top pick again and are able to land Sydney Crosby.

Thats sort of why I was hoping there would be a short season. The Caps, at this state, would win at most 10 games in a 28 game season.

That should be good enough to land in the bottom 5 and have a shot at the top pick

the Caps don't need to spend $70 million to win the Stanley Cup, the Lightning proved that last year. Because Washington is a small market hockey town ( as opposed to football and baseball where it is a very large market) the team can ill afford to make big dollar mistakes in free agency and with player contracts.

There can be no more gambles on guys like Jaromir Jagr.

That salary could have been disastrous if the Rangers had not been desperate enough to trade for him.

we can't count on that happening again.

I voted yes because it sux for there to be no season but it is a good thing for the capitals...they can have all their young players playing together in Portland except for the few that are spread all over the globe....if anyone wants to follow the caps prospects a bit closer they can check the site..... www.hockeysfuture.com they have an excellent handle on the caps farm system and its players

Say what you will about the 04 hockey season, but it's still an awesome, competitive, hard-contact sport that's fun to watch. Sure the players are being greedy asses, but I miss hockey. I miss studying for tests and having the caps on in the background. I can't watch TV without hearing Joe Beninatti talking about Bonda, Halpern and Kolzig. It's sad that the NHL folded, but damn do I miss that sport.
