Default How do you think Bobby Beathard would have handled the Coles situation?

I have read a lot of posts lately regarding the Coles situation, and all of the other stuff going on right now with the Redskins. I can't help but think as I am reading all of the many opinions being expressed that things would be going just a little different if Gibbs had the same situation he had when Beathard was here. Guys, we need a football mind that can be the GM of this football team. I love having Gibbs back, but I get the feeling he is going about all of this with one arm tied behind his back. Gibbs knows the X's and O's of football but he needs a GM to work with. Why do we not have a general manager on this team?

I dunno...besides the Brunell signing, I'd say the front office did a pretty damn good job last offseason, wouldn't you??...Taylor, Cooley, Griffin, Washington, Springs, Portis...

How do you think JKC would have handled it? It doesn't really matter. Coles is much more a matter of 6 coaches in 5 years than anything else. Now we have a guy in charge who appears to be set on staying for a while and being trusted to build the team for the long term. That's not something we've ever had before. If you think Gibbs isn't up to the task then I'd guess you think you're in for a long next couple of years. Because after him - there's nothing at this point.

I'm guessing it's because Snyder, Cerrato and (now) Gibbs feel they can do the job well enough without one....whether or not that's a reality is debatable..lol

But I will say this much...when it comes to the draft, Snyder and Cerrato have done a MUCH better job than our last GM Charley Casserly did...

Under Snyder/Cerrato, the Skins have drafted in the first three rounds:

    LaVar Arrington
    Chris Samuels
    Sean Taylor
    Patrick Ramsey
    Fred Smoot
    Chris Cooley
    Ladell Betts
    Rod Gardner
    Taylor Jacobs
    Derrick Dockery

Under Casserly, the Skins drafted in the first three rounds:

    Champ Bailey
    Jon Jansen
    Micheal Westbrook
    Heath Shuler
    Desmond Howard
    Tom Carter
    Cory Raymer
    Stephen Alexander
    Skip Hicks
    Tre Johnson
    Andre Johnson
    Kenard Lang
    Greg Jones
    Derek Smith

I think we don't have a gm because Gibbs and Snyder feel the system as constructed works. Having a gm wouldn't have made coles any happier or given us any set of better options on what to do about him right now. I'd accept that the concept is fundamentally flawed but for the fact that Jerah Jones won three rings as his own gm and he gave himself much more power than Snyder ever gave himself. Shanahan won two rings as his own gm. The iggles really have a very similar system to ours with Reid ultimately calling the final shots. Mike Sherman with GB too(?). Don't all decisions made by the black and silver run through Al Davis? They don't get pilloried like us because they won. That's the only difference.
