I just found out that my digital video camera only has a dv port and my laptop only has an S-video port. Am I screwed or is there an adapter somewhere out there?
I'm completely ignorant on this subject.

Do you have a firewire port? The S-Video on the laptop probably only outputs a signal rather than taking it in.
I don't think so. It only has USB ports.
I don't know what a DV port it, probably is a firewire output. You could buy a firewire card that plugs into one of the empty slots in your laptop.
thanks
99.9% of modern video cameras use firewire. The format of the digital video you are going to transfer over firewire (to dump on your PC for editing) is called DV.
And as mentioned, if your laptop has a PC Card slot, you can buy a firewire PC Card that should do the trick. Or buy a mac.
BTW, your laptop's s-video port is not for importing video. It is there so that if you want to, you can hook your laptop up to a television or a projector.
