If you cannot edit your USERCP or use the SEARCH FUNCTION

Or ATTACH PICTURES to your posts.... you have more than likely violated the signature limitations clearly outlined in the RULES AND REGULATIONS:

    http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/a...?s=&forumid=24

    13. Please maintain respectable size signatures within the limitations set hereforth.

As a result, your account has been locked prohibiting your from editing your account (and subsequently changing your signature) as well has losing the functionality to utilize the SEARCH feature and attaching pictures to your posts from your harddrive.

For directions on how to resolve this issue... please follow the instructions provided in the "Dude, Where's my sig" post stickied in this forum:

    http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/s...threadid=91877

    Thanks for your cooperation.

My signature went away again, when I checked the properties after it was reinstated, it said 550x200, did I overlook something? If I did it wasn't intentional. :gaintsuck

I PMed the extremeskins staff several days ago and have received no reply. Is there someone I should specifically go to?

It seems like someone is on a new hunt here.. How about helping people out instead of screwing with them. Send them a note, send them and email. Why get your kicks running around and altering peoples accounts for giggles. If you go and look at your "RULES" there is very little description in there as to what will cause you to take action. You spend more real estate describing what you will do to people. How about trying to be helpful. Also where in the "RULES" does it say that someone who happens to dissagree with you gets to alter your account in order to satisfy their own ego?
Dont get too big for your britches. Give the people that dont screw around in here a break and spend your "valuable time" going after the people who are here to bring other people down.. This is the one thing that really puts a strain on this site being really great: A group of mods all acting on their own without some sort of general concensus or guidelines to follow. My sig was up for a week, and then out of the blue, some cowboy decides he doesn't like it and takes it down.. Maybe you should consider some rules of engagement yourself instead of running around like little gods and screwing with peoples accounts. Its infuriating.. Grow up..

The sig that was removed was this.

If you follow the Forum Rules you'll see this:
    15. Please maintain respectable size signatures within the limitations set herein.
Maintaining reasonable size signatures minimizes the amount of load time needed to access a given page. Furthermore, it reduces the amount of excessive scrolling required of users perusing threads. Signatures should not exceed 550 pixels in width and 200 pixels in height. These dimensions are not a guideline, they are a rule. It is the standard dimension for the entire signature size a member can use. Regardless of the quantity of photos posted, the sum area of all the photos must not exceed the stated size limitations. In addition, signatures should not contain any more than 10 lines of text. The sum total of the height (ie. 200 pixels) INCLUDES text or any combination of images and text.

    An example is provided below:

Now, if we take the allowable size of 550 x 200, go up to post #3 here in this thread we find this :
On that screen capture, we see directions in red that show how to get to that window & how to check the pixel size of any image.

Now, if we go back to the very first post in this thread, at the top of it, we find this:
For directions on how to resolve this issue... please follow the instructions provided in the "Dude, Where's my sig" post stickied in this forum:

The link in that post states :
Should any signature be in violation of the rule, there will be no warning prior to action being taken. Instead, moderators will edit your account to remove the signature so that it is in compliance and, further, lock the account prohibited users from editing their account. Users may still login to their account and have full functionality. However, they will be unable to modify any fields or settings on the EDIT PROFILE page.

Offenders will then be required to contact a moderator for reinstatement which will include an apology and consent to the understanding of the rules and our expectations.

A second offense may result in the user permanently losing the capability to modify their account.

So, inconclusion, if we've read the rules, we know that the allowable sig size is 550 x 200 pixels. If we've read this thread that we've posted in, we know how to check the pixel size of any image on the web to see if fits the rules before we use it as a sig. And furthermore, if we read the first post in this thread, we see the directions pointing to another thread that states that there shall be no warning when it comes to removing sigs.

Now, hopefully, I've made that easy enough to follow & if I haven't, I'm sure you'll let me know.

So if you run into a signature that doesn’t fit the format tell the poster to change the sig. And if he or she doesn't change it right away THEN go ahead and make it impossible for them to post a signature. Being punished for posting a picture of Joe Jacoby, no matter the oversight, just doesn't seem right at all. If there is time to go modify someone’s account, there is time to ask them to remove or edit the sig. I even made that picture smaller because of its size. I didn't know at the time that there was a height requirement. As far as pixel space it’s smaller than the other sigs. My basic complaint is that if someone published or posted something objectionable like a nude or some other sort of slander, then I can entirely understand making it so they couldn’t post a sig or a pic. But changing their account for an oversight, then asking for an apology is ridiculous.
I should apologize for posting a picture of my favorite Redskin?
That is the most ludicrous thing I can even imagine..
Apologize to whom? God? Joe Gibbs? Joe Jacoby? All the starving children in Africa? All the poor ES posters that had to suffer through my additional 158 pixels?
Come on. Give me a break..
Why.. That is what I want to know, and the question that has been so adeptly avoided, should a person’s ability to enjoy the site be robbed from them for such a simple mistake and not some other much more egregious error or offense? I can think of other much more harmful, offensive or outright tasteless things someone can post on the internet. Posting a picture of my favorite player just isn’t one of them. In no one’s book. Except the people who want to play god on ES, rather than just asking me to edit the pic, which I would have without thinking about it. Much the same way someone altered my account by doing exactly that. Not thinking about it.

Do you really want to go down that road? It's not going to be pretty for there tends to be a high fatality rate for those that choose to travel that twisted path.

Or, do you want to do the easy thing and just say 'Hey guys, I messed up. My bad.' Something like that will get your sig priveledge back.

Or your third option is to simply agree to disagree & move on without having a sig.

You're missing the whole point of that policy by a country mile. First of all, to an individual member, I can understand how focusing on something as trivial as sig pic size seems arbitrary and obsessive. But huge signatures have gotten out of hand in the past and greatly reduced the level of enjoyment members got from the site by doubling/tripling page load times. While its true that members can 'turn off signatures', why should they have to? I love the signatures and they truly spice up the site - and theres no reason why I shouldn't be able to enjoy them even if I'm a dial-up user.

We've tried it your way. Over the past several years, we've had between 30,000 and 50,000+ members - do you have any idea how much time it would take to personally contact each one and wait for a response - then engage in an individual conversation? The only reason we lock sig privileges is to force the member to contact us, since we found previously the users would simply ignore the request. We aren't rude about it - if you found it to be so, I suspect its because you made a big deal out of it (as you're doing here). We politely re-affirm the max sigpic size, and then we immediately restore their privileges. I've done it thousands of times, which I'm sure others here can confirm. And your belief that its 'just as quick' to attempt to contact the individual poster just isn't accurate.

And to address your other concern, sig pic size is just one minor thing we'd address - violations of forum rules related to obscene or offensive content is treated much differently. Bottom line, freezing sig pic privileges is simply an administrative action taken to facilitate the member contacting us so we can get the issue resolved.

"Do you really want to go down that road? It's not going to be pretty for there tends to be a high fatality rate for those that choose to travel that twisted path."

No I didn't and I don't or else I wouldn't be putting up such a fuss. But it is exactly this "you better watch out or else" attitude that I am protesting. It is foolish, childish, it gets no one anywhere, and is absolutely hopeless to stand on for any one other than those that "have the power". Dictators think this way, murderers think this way, people that HAVE TO HAVE THEIR WAY think this way. It makes me want to puke. You just HAVE to have your way.. There is no other option. That is the way people that kill people think. I don’t have to have my way. I have said I would change my sig. What the hell else do you want? Me to nail my mother to a slab and say "Have at 'er boys!" It's sick. It's just sick...
That being said.. If you have actually read this far without out having your finger on the "this way to the twisted path" button. Read on all powerful.

"I can understand how focusing on something as trivial as sig pic size seems arbitrary and obsessive. But huge signatures have gotten out of hand in the past and greatly reduced the level of enjoyment members got from the site by doubling/tripling page load times."

Yes, I can understand too. And my pic, which was damn near the same size as everyone elses, wasn't near out of hand. I own a website and have Gigs, not Megs or KB, but Gigs flowing out of my site to search engines. Stupid little search engines that do nothing but eat my bandwidth. Should I call them up and say "hey, please don’t index me, it costs me too much." No.. I shouldn't and I won’t.

I purposely edited, and then edited again that picture to try to get it to fit. But does anyone have time to check the server stats and see how many times I edited the photo.. NO. Does any one try to see or ask if I edited the photo.. NO. Does anyone even look to see if the photo was near the size of all of the other sigs?? NO.. They just lay a blanket over it and push it next to the other refuse..

You want to talk about upload time??? You don’t even host the photos.. You don’t carry the bandwidth!! You provide a link space to the photo.. BFD.. After all, I didn’t think that people should be able to scroll through the postings like a Wal-Mart. I thought they were supposed to READ the post, which would give the photos time to download.
In the most recent picture post:
    http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/s...t=motivational

people posted pictures of outrageous sizes.. Because they weren't sig pictures these people have a pass???

That is the hypocrisy.. That is the reason for my complaint.. That is the reason I call you cowboys and renegades. Because the policy, however just you may feel it is, sucks... Plain and simple. It makes no sense, it is purely judgmental, it is enforced unequally, and it all around stinks.

You make claims of 50,000 members that you cant keep track of, though we all know right now finding more that 400 on board is a long shot. You say that everyone should read EVERYTHING and understand EVERYTHING and know like the back of their hand EVERYTHING before posting. Might I remind you, oh THE, that are so mighty, that EVERYTHING didn’t exist when you started this page. It had to grow along with you and if you were held to the same standards now, that you so quickly enforce on others today, you too would find yourselves in the world of the less than popular.

So think.. That is all I ask, is that you think….. THINK…..You sometimes mindless collective tribe of troglodytes, that there may be others out there that need a hand and not a scorning. You astonish me with your arrogance.. All of you who claim to share the same feelings…

If you haven’t pressed the “bye-bye forever” button yet, please read on. If it doesn’t turn your mighty challises into bronze…

“While it’s true that members can 'turn off signatures', why should they have to? I love the signatures and they truly spice up the site - and there’s no reason why I shouldn't be able to enjoy them even if I'm a dial-up user.”

I agree, I had a flash as a sig that was just as big if not bigger than the allowed size since the last Dallas game. No one had a problem with that…I tried to load the page on dial-up and was amazed at how bad it sucked. That is why I went to a straight image. To try to help.

But no, I am left to ride the greaseless end of the harpoon, because after a week of my new sig being up, someone at about 7am this morning had a bug in their cavern, and decided to take not only my sig away, but my ability to post a sig as well.
Does it seem fair? No.. Will it ever?? No..

    Then comes along THE POLICY..
“Oh if you had read THE POLICY, you wouldn’t be having this trouble would you?”
What is this, a bank? Am I taking out a loan? Have I just bought a house?
NO.. I am a guy that posted a picture, and “In an effort to ensure you contact us” someone had to go and screw with me…

I run a business. I deal with pricks like me all the time. And the one thing I would never tell them is, “I’m sorry, you have violated me, and in an effort to get your attention, I have removed your ability to express yourself.” It’s just not how things are done in the real world. But then I guess, this is the real world to some of you.

I can’t imagine, if this site actually wanted something from someone how it would be.. So cocky? So brash? So utterly contemptible? I doubt it. I think all of these little petty things, resembling the units of their makers would just go away.. Quickly. God forbid you guys actually had to listen to your consumers..

“We aren't rude about it - if you found it to be so, I suspect it’s because you made a big deal out of it (as you're doing here). We politely re-affirm the max sigpic size, and then we immediately restore their privileges.”

You aren’t rude about it? What are you saying? Do you hear yourself?
Ok.. You go to bed tonight, and in the morning, your car is gone.. What is your first feeling? Then you search around, and find out that it’s at the local tow yard. And you second feeling is? Then you realize it was towed out of your own driveway. And your third feeling is.. Then you talk to the tow truck mongoloid, and he says, “Hey buddy, if you say you’re sorry for parking in your own driveway, I’ll give you your car back…” Then the tow idiot reminds you that at the end of your driveway is a really, really, really little sign that says he can tow your car.

What you guys are doing is the exact same thing. You are the tow truck drivers of ES, the Henry’s of FedEx. Think about it. How much do you really trust, respect, or like tow truck drivers? I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you are.

“And to address your other concern, sig pic size is just one minor thing we'd address - violations of forum rules related to obscene or offensive content is treated much differently.”

What do you do to them? Make them come to your house and fold your laundry? How, from complete banishment, do you turn up the voltage on real offenders? Why is it that some miserable joker like me is immediately fed to the lions?

“Bottom line, freezing sig pic privileges is simply an administrative action taken to facilitate the member contacting us so we can get the issue resolved.”

This is only more evidence that I am dealing with a “Bow to me” character, and not a rational person. If you have time to make threats like this, you had time to warn me there was a problem.

“Or, do you want to do the easy thing and just say 'Hey guys, I messed up. My bad.' Something like that will get your sig privilege back.”

I have contacted you. Five times. And you want some sort of apology. Like I said before, if you feel you have the right to ask for one then I feel I have the right to face my accuser. You put right here in name, the people, person, animal or entity that I am supposed to apologize to and I will. But if you want me to come into the open air and say to the world “ I am sorry for upsetting a bunch of children.” It just is never going to happen. So I make you this deal. IF you feel that you need an apology, and your minute psyche cant live without one, post your name here, and I will by name, as long as you are deserving, say I am sorry. Otherwise,

Most people don't have any understanding of what it takes to build and maintain a website. It's all about direction and decisions.

Do you know why ExtremeSkins was created? Because I didn't like what other Redskins sites were doing. So rather than expecting people to conform to my ideas.... I created my own website.

    Funny how things work out.

As I always say... you don't like it? Leave. Create your own Redskins website. And when you do..... let me know. I'd love the opportunity to criticize your creation And better yet, I promise to recreate some of the thousands of dilemmas we've come across in the last 5+ years in managing a "community".

It'll be fun... for some of us.
