Default Nats Begin Cleanout

It was announced today via nationals.com that the team has cut ties with Jose Cardenal. Cardenal was a “special advisor” to former general manager Jim Bowden. What does this mean for the team? More firings are on the way as current general manager Mike Rizzo will want to bring his own people in, and for the most part rid the team of Jim Bowden’s ghosts.
The Big question remaining for the nationals is…will they fire Riggleman?
After winning the last 7 games, he may have saved his job.

My opinion...the Nationals played "better" with Riggleman under the helm. I think he should return next season. I say that because right now, I don't really see who they could bring in, that would be any better at this point. Riggleman, along with other coaches, did a good job in progressing the players. If they have a good off-season and actually bring in some arms, they could be a .500 team.

I'd support Riggleman coming back. As you said, there's not many more options out there. Plus he knows the team and they seemed to play better ball under him in the 2nd half of the season. As long as the players are behind him, so am I.

The Nationals are not going to get a top flight manager who wants to win to come here in 2010.

Washington had the worst starting ERA in baseball and was among the worst defensive clubs as well.

The team despite 4-5 years of 'rebuilding' still needs to find 3-4 core players AND have another 2-3 younger players emerge to take on more significant roles in 2010.

If that were to transpire and the outlines of what could be a winning team emerges then in 2011 you could go out and perhaps sign a name manager.

He's not a bad manager either, when given talent to work with.

I think Riggs deserves the job.

I really liked the way our guys played under him after Acta was removed.

agreed. manny actalikeamanager was a total joke, and riggs was able to accomplish more with less, plus i think he has the respect of the younger guys. were not going to compete this year again so we need to continue building and riggs could be the guy we do that with.

hopefully he is retained and we continue to grow all these youngsters into legit players.
