Nylander had another 2 assists tonight and he was a +1. So after starting the season 1-4, Grand Rapids went 3-0 this weekend with Nylander in the lineup. Nyles finished the weekend with 5 points (5 assists) an even +/- rating and had a Shootout goal. Not bad for someone who hasn't played a meaningful game in almost 6 months.

We'll see if someone comes calling this week (Grand Rapids doesn't play until next weekend) otherwise Nylander will certainly finish out the full two week stint with GR. Hopefully someone saw something they liked and we can get this over as soon as possible.

Well, looks like he's on the way back to DC. This has turned into an absolute nightmare. If nobody's made a big move for him by now, it's only going to get worse as he won't be able to go on any more conditioning stints...

I hope he likes practicing, because that's all he's going to be doing. I'm surprised to an extent that no one has inquired about him, especially after his productive conditioning stint, but it happens. Too bad for Mike, too bad for the Caps. He'll either be waived or bought out July 1 of next year. I'd prefer that he be waived if Ted has the pockets for it.

don't get too excited folks. Nylander's NMC is still in full effect....sort of. In the event that he does get claimed off of waivers he could reject that claim if it's a team he has no interest in playing for, and I'm sure at that point he would return to Washington's roster. If he goes unclaimed he would still be able to reject an assignment to an AHL team, at that point he would remain on Washington's roster, cap hit and all. He would maintain a "cleared" waiver status for 30 days. If the Caps can't get him to agree to a loan somewhere within the month we're back to square one. This certainly gets the ball rolling, but it is by no means the end to this thing.

Where'd you get your info? My only source is Tarik, and in his blog he stated that Nyls waived his NMC. Do you have a better source with more info?

Rule 11.8 (b) of the CBA states:

11.8 (b) A no-move clause may prevent the involuntary relocation of a Player, whether by Trade, Loan or Waiver claim. A no-move clause, however, may not restrict the Club's buy-out and termination rights as set forth in this Agreement. Prior to exercising its Ordinary Course Buy-Out rights pursuant to Paragraph 13 of the SPC hereof, the Club shall, in writing in accordance with the notice provisions in Exhibit 3 hereof, provide the Player with the option of electing to be placed on Waivers. The Player will have twenty-four (24) hours from the time he receives such notice to accept or reject that option at his sole discretion, and shall so inform the Club in writing, in accordance with the notice provisions in Exhibit 3 hereof, within such twenty-four (24) hour period. If the Player does not timely accept or reject that option, it will be deemed rejected.

Here is the link (although it's a PDF so this is just a link to the page to get to the CBA) http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26366

I wish I could underline parts, but basically The party with the No Move Clause can elect to be put on waivers, but once a claim comes in he still holds the right and has 24 hours to use his NMC to reject the claim. And really, according to this rule, it appears that a team can't do anything with a NMC player without their consent.

Now I don't see much more info on the ramifications if someone with a NMC uses it to reject a waiver claim, but I assume it would just nullify the whole process. If Nylander goes unclaimed I assume he'd be treated as anyone else who clears waivers; i.e. the 30 day or 10 NHL game "cleared" status. The only difference being that Nylander can still refuse an assignment to an AHL team because of his No Move. This thing is way complicated, but the Nylander being put on waivers isn't as conclusive as I had hoped.

Based on the info you've provided, this actually looks more and more like desperation from the Caps. Many think it was Nyls giving in, but this (if I'm reading everything correctly) is the Caps' way of saying "**** it, we just want you gone, even if we get nothing in return". My high hopes are now dashed.

Well I mean, at this point all they've been trying to do is get rid of his salary anyway. If they can get an NHL team to take him that'd be beautiful; if no NHL team wants him they have 30 days to work out a loan with a European team. They do just want him gone and 4.875 million in cap space is more than enough of a return for Nylander.

True, but it leads no credence to the fact that Nyls is giving on anything, and still holds all the cards.

the salary cap came along in the NHL at the wrong time for the Caps.

the team is finally profitable and has a bevy of young players to build with.

after all the years of watching Toronto and New York buy and sell players and then write off contracts at will, it all seems unfair now that Washington finally has an elite roster and can't do the same.

Question,

I have been following the Caps since they came here. Lost interest over the years, the strike did me in. Long time hockey player myself. Started watching more and more since we got Ovie.

I usually emerse myself into a team.

My question is, can I get the readers digest version of how exactly Nylander got into the doghouse and why they refuse to let him out???????

Signed him to a five year deal when we needed top centers bad. Played decent under Hanlon and not so well under Boudreau. Got hurt late in 2007 and was shut down. Came back last year and played his way into the doghouse with crappy play. He became a healthy scratch on most nights. He could not be moved because of his NMC. That NMC has been in effect until this past week.

The end. :-)
