He will be allowed to eventually. Too much money to gain.

Like Bush wearing number 25 wouldn't make just as much money. I say good job NFL voters.

Why is it a good job? What's the big deal of letting him have the number?

How do you figure that.

He already said he will still donate to the fund anyway. It doesn't matter what number he wears, he's still the same running back, who by the way, hasn't proven anything in an NFL game.

He will only donate 25% of the 6% of jersey sales that he gets. That's still a much larger chunk for the NFL if they let him wear #5

He will get approval to wear the #5 next season. This will allow all fans to purchase his jersey this season, then buy a new one next year with the updated number. It's like all that purchased ST's jersey, then had to buy a new one when he changed numbers. The real number these high profile players change is the number in their financial portfolio.

You make an exception for one guy, you have to make an exception for the next guy. Where does it end? Bush can choose any number from 20-49. I think that's plenty.

It's about style. It's a fashion statement and also it "looks" cool.

Any running back can wear 25. But imagine if he's the only running back wearing 5. Do you know how many people are going to run out and get a Reggie Bush No. 5 Saints jersey?

Trust me on this guys. I'm young and fashionable. Those number five jerseys would sell like crazy.

The NFL's competition committee decided at the league's owners meeting here it will not recommend a change to the numbering system for jerseys for the '06 season, and it seems unlikely that it would do so for future seasons.

it would look "cool" as long as it was unique. soon after everyone coming into the league would be doing the same exact thing and then it would just be tired and trendy.

That is true, too. But his would sell the fastest. Not to mention if he has a HOF career imagine the money they would make off of throwbacks.
