OFFICIAL PETITION: Start Building a Franchise through the Draft
OFFICIAL PETITION: Please Start Building a Franchise through the Draft
This is a petition to Daniel $. Snyder III. Mr. Snyder, ol' buddy, ol' pal. When you look around the league, which teams seem to consistently make it to the playoffs year after year? Patriots - 3 Super Bowl championships in the last 5 years. Playoffs every year. Eagles - 4 straight NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl visit. Broncos - 2 Super Bowls, a few AFC Championship games, and countless playoff games in the last 10 years. Steelers - 1 Super Bowl championship, 4 AFC Championship visits in the last 10 years, countless playoff games What's the consistent, common thread between these teams? 1) Good coaching 2) Plenty of extra cap space 3) Plenty of cap space because they build through the draft 4) Plenty of cap space to resign franchise players with because they build through the draft 5) Plenty of cap space to retain decent depth at positions behind the starter because they build through the draft and avoid paying high priced free agents and sacrificing depth to pay for them 6) Draft picks with which to build through the draft with because they were smart enough to know that draft picks are much more valuable than high-priced free agents 7) Marquee defensive players who make up the fiber of the team's defense and the teams don't hesitate to resign - i.e. (in the Skins' case) Clark, Pierce, etc... 8) They don't charge you tens of thousands of dollars a year for a ticket and parking to watch a bunch of pampered multi-millionaire free agent pickups stink up the joint. These teams have shown that the path to a franchise that will be successful in the playoffs for many consecutive years is to BUILD THROUGH THE DRAFT and use free agency ONLY to plug gaping holes, not to construct your entire team. Sign the petition if you agree.

We MUST build through the draft. You should make this on one of those petition websites with electronic signatures. Then you could send it to them and at least something (though I doubt it) might happen to change our outlook of the future.
Also, we need a GM. |

I whole-hardily agree with you, but that's not how this team acquires it's talent. To them, the draft is a waste of time. They try their hardest to avoid having picks on the second day when most teams finds those diamonds in the rough. This team is built on the star system where you overpay for a guy and basically outbid other teams for their services. The draft is a foreign concept to this team. As for the idea of a getting a GM, you can forget about it because there are too many egos in the front office and a bonafide GM would just get in their way.

I agree no more high priced free agents
...until the offseason, when we can get kicker Josh Brown and DE Dwight Freeney and then we'll stop.I'm kidding, but I wouldn't be surprised. |

no ... no...
we need to continue to maintain the Skin's legacy of being a paradise for high-paying good for nothing, under acheiving free agents. adam archuletta, andre carter, christian fauria, warrick holdman ... are good examples! |

The Skins need to do whatever they can, to aquire more draft picks in a hurry! Just look at what the rest of the NFCEast has been able to do through the draft, over the past few years...... Every year that this continues, the Skins fall a little further behind. ![]() Last edited by ImRickJamesB; October-16th-2006 at 03:51 AM.. |
