Default Redskins QB core ranked 30th in the NFL

Quote:
30. Washington Redskins
With a full offseason as the starter, young Jason Campbell is expected to show vast improvement in 2007 and take over this team. He has excellent overall skills, a strong arm and a potentially outstanding deep ball, but he makes bad decisions at times and throws into coverage. The hope is that another year in the offensive system will help his recognition. The coaches will also utilize a run-oriented offense to take the pressure off. Veteran Mark Brunell restructured his contract to stay as Campbell's mentor and backup. Even though his skills and arm strength are diminishing, he still knows this offense and his leadership and poise could be invaluable if Campbell falters and he was forced to play. The No. 3 QB will be Todd Collins. He has a great grasp of this offense and he's probably better than a lot of No. 2 QBs in this league.

The only teams behind the Skins are the Vikings and Chiefs.

I'm not going to argue the ranking, although I find it hard to believe that the Houston trio of Matt Schaub, Sage Rosenfels and Brad Van Pelt should be ranked higher. Nobody is going to give Campbell any love until he proves what he can do for a full season, and I can't say as I blame them.

Why does this surprise you? We have basically a rookie....and no backup.

Included in that camp is offensive coordinator Sherman Smith, who spoke openly about his belief that starting Ladell Betts will boost the offense.

“Now Clinton practiced last week, but Ladell practices more consistently, and I think just the timing with the offensive line may be just a little bit better. So he'll give us a spark, there's no question about that."

A very reasonable assessment from an outsider's perspective. Everyone needs to quit whining and realize we were 5-11 last year, and Campbell was 2-5 as a starter and struggled with accuracy at times. Take out the ranking, and what's written is right on the money and actually rather generous.

I really don't understand how if our 1)#3 QB is better than a lot of backups; 2) our #2 started last year and 3) our #1 is a first round draft pick going into his first season that he was able to get comfortable with the offense who is the same guy who won the SEC offensive player of the year with noname receivers on an undefeated team the last time he started a full season with all the intangibles is rated 30th. Ummm I would take Brunell or Campbell over the Browns QBs or the Dolphins. Maybe the Falcons, too, considering what might happen to Vick. Oh year and the Bills and Ravens are FAR worse off than us.

Well guys, its over. Seasons over. Now that ESPN has our QB situation at number 30 our seasons over. No point in even trying.

I honestly don't care what anyone says about us at this point. I just hope we prove all the doubters wrong. But it's no way there are 29 other teams who have a better QB situation than us so it is what it is.

Actually, we have an excellent back-up should we need him. Good try though.

As for the article and ranking, I actually like this. Go back and check the records. No one outside of the organization (inclucing most of the fans) gave any credit to Thiesman, Williams, or Rypien before or during their Super Bowl seasons (and SB MVP seasons for that matter for Williams and Rypien). So, I say let them feel and think that we are not strong at that position. Gibbs has proven more than any other coach that he knows what he is doing when it comes to the most important position on the field.

Aaron Rodgers has faced much tougher competition and puts up better numbers than Campbell. Take into affect that Campbell has played against the easiest schedule in the history of the NFL the first 6 weeks of the season and still puts up mediocre/sub par stats the more numbers and facts that get exposed the sillier the Jason Campbell hopeful's continue to look. - ghetto smoove.

Not just them. How the frick did we get put behind Cleveland? For arguement's sake let's say Jason Campbell = Brady Quinn. How the heck does Mark Brunell and whoever ends up #3 lose out to Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson?

And if Campbell doesn't get any love because he hasn't proven what he can do for a full season please explain how Quinn, Russell, Cutler, Leinart and Romo are all ranked so high?

This like so many lists on ESPN is nice for discussion but isn't worth the bytes it is printed on.

Bulletin board material. That's all this crap is. Another piece of ESPN trash to fuel the flames of our players. They definately will have a major chip on their shoulder. If the skins do well this year, I can't wait to see this ENTIRE BOARD erupt and barrage ESPN's writers with trash talk, and shove their articles down their throats.

Fuel the fire, espn. It's getting mighty big at this point. Light a flame under our players, thats what we want.
