I read about this in the Redskins Encyclopedia. There's a picture of him with Joe Theismann in there.
Apparently he declined a contract worth about $100K.

Yea I heard about that, for special teams purposes. Probably would have worked too. At the very least he would have commanded some double/triple teams to free other guys up, or so I would think.
